Cupuacu is the newest super fruit gaining popularity here in the United States. This tasty fruit chock full with antioxidants and health benefits is already a part of many popular diets in South America, especially in Brazil. This fruit can be found on trees in the Amazon rain forest and is a part of the Cocoa family (Yes, Chocolate!). Because of that, it has a light cocoa taste to it and is a main ingredient in many South American countries to make gourmet deserts such as ice cream, tarts and fruit preserves. It resembles the shape of a coconut and has a fuzzy shell. There's a growing number of groups who swear by this super fruit, claiming it assists in labor pains and stomach discomfort.

Cupuacu fruit is sometimes compared to the popular Acai berry being that it is rich in nutrients and gives a big boost to the human body's immune system. It contains a special high potency level of phytonutrient polyphenols which is not seen in any other natural fruits. That's not all, it is also very rich in Vitamin B1, B2, B3 and Vitamin A and C. When tested in various lab settings, Cupuacu was found to contain high levels of amino acids, calcium and selenium. One of the biggest health benefits is that this amazing fruit helps boost the immune system, helping fight off illness and thus keeping the body running at peak performance. Another benefit of Cupuacu is the way it helps give the body energy without caffeine and does not give you that exhausted feeling afterwords. It's like a shot of B12 just in a delicious fruit form.

There are also many other health benefits such as: increased sex-drive, improved blood circulation, cardiovascular protection, improved mental focus, lower blood pressure, healthier looking skin and even reduced signs of aging. Not only does it give you an endless list of health benefits but it also taste delicious. You can get Cupuacu in it's typical fruit form, drink form, powder form, ice cream form or yogurt form. As it becomes more widely known there are bound to be new products offered here in North America featuring this amazing super food. Best of all, this fruit has so many uses that we're continually discovering new and unique ways for it to help with a serious problem!

The moisture retaining properties of this are making waves in the hair care world as well. Cupuacu is being hailed as an effective and lasting remedy for dry brittle hair.

Commercialization of the product in its various forms is not far behind. Already this is available in 2-4 percent concentrations in creams and lotions and in 10-12 percent concentration in hair care products. From the sound of it, ancillary products like lipstick, deodorants, soaps and yes, even ice cream are on their way. The trans-epidermal loss. Applied for hair products, products with spa appeal, soaps, make-ups.

As if its enriching qualities were not enough, it also provides broad spectrum protection against both UV-B and UV-A radiation. Although an SPF is not yet associated with it, its sun protection prowess is proven.
