One of the most in demand job positions today are those related with customer service since there are a lot of businesses that involve customer service. One of the most important qualifications of any customer service position job is the skill to relate well with people. Apart from this, each job position entails more specific qualifications that one should take note of before applying for any of the positions.
Under the classification of customer service jobs, the following positions are included: receptionist, customer service representative, secretary, supervisor in the customer service department, insurance adjuster, claims examiner and railroad conductor to name a few. Each job position will be briefly described in this article.
The primary responsibility of a receptionist is to welcome the visitors in the office. He will also be responsible in answering and getting messages from phone calls or directing these phone calls to the people needed. It is also a receptionist’s duty to know general information about the company since he is responsible in explaining to customers or clients any thing that they need to know. On one hand, customer service representatives have a responsibility with regards to the relationship or interaction of the clients and the company that they are working for. They are the people who the clients can talk to about their queries, issues or complains about the company or the service and product that the company provides. The manner of communication may be personal, through the internet or the telephone.
A secretary’s responsibility is acting as support of the management or of a particular person from the management with regards to receiving information, keeping the information organized and managing the schedule of his boss. Preparing necessary documents, forwarding important documents to the management and scheduling meetings, travel arrangements and conferences are also part of the secretary’s responsibilities. There is also a supervisor job position which is customer service related if he supervises the customer service department which includes the people under it and the activities within the department. Part of his responsibilities is evaluating the employees’ performance, instructing them of proper ways to do the job and training them appropriately as well.
An insurance adjuster is a job position which has responsibilities of investigating, analyzing and determining liabilities of a company’s insurance. The extent of the said insurance which includes casualty, property damages and personal issues are included in the things that an insurance adjuster should analyze. A claims examiner is related to the insurance adjuster position, although the claim examiner also known as reviewers, as the name suggests, reviews the claims against an insurance company. They have the authority to approve or reject claims or settlements of particular health or life insurance companies.
Lastly, a railroad conductor is similar to a supervisor in the railroad department who handles the performance of the train crew ad the safety of both the crew and the passenger. As mentioned, all these job positions have different qualifications and knowing all the qualifications first which should be included in the job postings of the company or from websites online would prepare you in resume writing or the interview.
