These days a wine rack is much more than just a place to store wine. It also makes a bold statement about your personal style and your kitchen. A wine rack is now a piece of the dcor, so it must be stylish, in addition to being functional. This means that you must be very selective when trying to choose the perfect wine rack, so here are some important things to take into consideration.
Material and Style
Material and style are two things that go hand in hand when you are considering a new wine rack. Wood was the original material of wine racks, but today metal is just as common. Also plastic and glass are even making an entrance into the wine rack scene. The only bad thing about some of these newer materials is that they can scratch the wine bottles as you pull them out. Usually wood and wrought iron racks do not have this problem, but some of the newer materials do. Also wood racks are much easier to expand because they can be purchased in modular formations, as opposed to other kinds of racks that are not expandable.
Just remember that the material you choose makes a major statement about the style of the rack. Also some materials are better for certain types of styles. For example, wood racks tend to be perfect in the kitchens of those who are looking for an old-fashioned, rustic style, while metal tends to be more modern, contemporary, or even classic. Remember that many wine racks are decorative in addition to filling a need in the kitchen, so make sure that the look of the rack matches the style of the rest of your kitchen.
Space
Another important thing to think about when shopping for a wine rack is the space that you have available to work with. This means both the amount of space and the type of space. Start out by thinking about where you plan to store your rack. If a countertop rack is needed, then the space will be very small, although if you have room in the basement or garage, then a larger rack is certainly possible. Take the time to measure the space before you go shopping. This will ensure that you do not end up with a rack that is much larger than the amount of space you have. Also think carefully about the type of space. A wood rack may be better in places like basements or garages where a small bit of moisture is possible. However, a metal rack may add a lot more elegance to your kitchen dcor if you plan to display the rack.
Built-in Racks
Another great option for wine lovers is to have a rack built right into their kitchen. This may only be possible for people who are remodeling, but it is a very unique features that many people will love, especially if you decide to sell the house. Built-in racks can be underneath a cabinet or in an overhead space. They can also free up plenty of space for other parts of the kitchen to be used in better ways so that no inch of storage space in the kitchen is wasted.
No matter what kind of wine rack you choose, just remember that it reflects a big part of your personality in the kitchen. Style is extremely important because many wine lovers consider their rack to be a piece of art that changes just a bit every time their wine collection changes. Just opt for a style that suits you, and all the other pieces will fall into place.
