The Cayenne pepper, also termed as the Capsicum annuum, Guinea spice, Cow Horn Pepper, aleva, bird pepper or popularly known as red pepper, is a very hot spice. The name Cayenne comes from the city in French Guiana called Cayenne. The fruits of this herb are commonly dried and pounded or pulped and baked into cakes, which are then ground and sifted to make the powdered spice form. This kind of spice can grow in any place as long as the climate is humid and the soil is warm, moist and rich in nutrients. This plant requires about 100 days to mature and it can grow up to approximately 2 to 4 feet.
Cayenne is indeed a very common spice in varying cuisines. In fact, it is the main ingredient among hot sauces and condiments. But aside from its culinary benefits, Cayenne also contains alkaloids, apsaicine, capsacutin, capsaicin, capsanthine, capsico PABA, fatty acids, flavonoids, sugars, carotene, volatile oil, and vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, and C. Other health benefits of Cayenne pepper include an increase in body metabolism by immediately influencing the bodys venous structure.
It has the ability to feed the vital elements into the cell structure of blood vessels and helps adjust blood pressure to normal levels. It also helps the body get rid of the bad cholesterol known as Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and cleanses the arterial walls from cholesterol deposits. Cayenne is also a counter-irritant. Since it facilitates good circulation, it brings blood to the surface and allows the toxins to be carried away.
Another benefit of Cayenne is that it is also great for stomach and intestinal tract. It facilitates the peristaltic motion of the intestines and aids in digestion, absorption and elimination. It also rebuilds tissues in the stomach and has the ability to heal stomach and intestinal ulcers when taken regularly in an ample amount.
Needless to say, Cayenne pepper also has an antifungal property. Cayenne has been discovered in many studies to be active against fungal pathogens known as phomopsis and collectotrichum. Cayenne can also be used as an important remedy in cholera by stopping vomiting. To prepare this solution, combine one half ounce of Cayenne powder, half ounce of common table salt and one pint of vinegar. Take this in tablespoon doses as needed. Cayenne can also be used as an anti-spasmodic. It will give a soothing and warm feeling on the skin when it is used externally to provide relief from muscular pain.
So people might ask, How should I take cayenne? Ideally, this medicinal spice can be taken orally in a drink. The Cayenne pepper drink, when taken regularly, will considerably improve the health of your heart. Mix it with warm distilled or purified water. The mixture is said to be about a quarter of a teaspoon of powdered cayenne in a glass of warm water. It may be too uncomfortable at first, but you will get used to it. As mentioned above, you can also use Cayenne topically.
Cayenne has amazing properties, you can find this wonderful spicy herb at your local or internet vitamin store. always choose name brands like solaray to ensure quality of what you buy for better health.
