Cargos have rules the fashion roost ever since the times of the World Wars. These clothes, originally designed for military wear have now entered the workwear and even the street wear realms in a very big way. Cargo uniforms have become the workwear of choice for most American workers. In fact, cargo uniforms have gained the same popularity that the workwear khakis had done a few decades ago.
There are many reasons why the cargo uniforms are becoming so popular. The cargo uniforms are made in baggy cuts, and even made baggier than the khaki clothes that exist today. This kind of loose fit nicely complements heavy-duty work that most people have to put up with. Being more than baggy, the cargo uniforms allow for good freedom of movement while working and that takes care of dull aches that workers often complain of, at the end of a long work day. This is a direct benefit over the denim and jeans work clothes that fit tightly over the body.
Cargo uniforms are also quite lightweight compared to other materials like denim and corduroy. In fact, workers wearing cargo uniforms feel as though they are wearing nothing at all! The stitch as well as the weight of the cargo uniforms is designed to give the greatest degree of comfort to the wearer.
Then, cargo uniforms are much more versatile than other clothes. They can be worn in almost any kind of workplace environment, whether it is indoor or outdoor. Though the popularity of cargo may not be as much as that of denim jeans currently, it is true that this material has been spread out almost everywhere in the world in recent times. And it is only getting more popular with each passing day.
One very notable feature of cargo uniform pants is that they have a lot of pockets. About half a dozen pockets are the norm. There are two pockets in the front, two at the hip and at least two pockets, one each on the sides of each leg. The pockets are bigger and easily accessible because of the loose designing of the pants. They can be used to keep anything from cigarette lighters to palmtops. Workmen enjoy this convenience, because they can place their tools in the various pockets of their uniforms, which saves their time and effort while they are working.
Almost all cargo pants can be converted into shorts by unzipping the bottom leg portion of the pants. This provides an option of working in cargo pants or in cargo shorts.
When we speak of cargo uniforms, we generally speak of the cargo pants. That is because almost anything can be complemented with these pants to make a complete work ensemble. Most workmen prefer wearing T-shirts with their cargo pants. Even shirts can make a good complement. Cargo uniforms also contain a cargo jacket, which is optional for wear. The jacket is usually needed when a T-shirt is worn with the cargo pant.
Today, cargo uniforms have become a fashion statement. It is not unusual to find men dressed in cargo uniforms and looking macho on the covers of fashion glossies. Even women workers have taken to cargo uniforms in a major way. It is providing them with the confidence to do heavy-duty work in an environment that was hitherto dominated by men.
