Everyone is looking for ways to make their dcor unique, and a towel stand is certainly a great piece that can make any bathroom stand out. Most people tend to opt for towel bars because of their simplicity and the fact that they hang on a well, but a towel stand actually sits on the floor and can liven up any space. It is the perfect solution for very spacious bathrooms that have some empty floor space which really needs a use. Also a towel stand can be very helpful when the need arises to have room for more than one towel. Sometimes the wall space for two towel bars just isn't available, but a stand takes up just a small amount of floor space and can hold one, two, three, or even more towels. Before you go shopping, there are a few things you should consider when looking for the perfect towel stand for your home.

Size

The very first thing that should be done before going shopping is measuring the space. This includes measuring both the floor space that is available and the space along the wall that will be needed. Generally a towel stand affects the floor space more than the wall space, but it still helps quite a bit to have both of those measurements. Also remember that the good thing about a stand instead of a rack or bar is the fact that there is no need to measure where the studs are in the wall because the stand will just sit right on the floor.

Style

The next consideration that should be made is the style. A towel stand should complement the rest of the room. It should match any hardware that is in the space, like drawer and cabinet pulls or a shower curtain rod. It should also match the overall design of the room. For example, an Asian inspired stand would simply look out of place in a bathroom that is in more of a country style with white wooden cabinets and pastel colors on the wall. In general, if you match the hardware of the rest of the room, you will have a match in the type of stand you choose. If you are completely remodeling the space and starting from scratch, then be sure to think about the color of paint or tile you intend to use for the walls, the color and style of the cabinets, and the overall look of the room.

Material

Everyone is very concerned about durability, and having a piece that will last a very long time often goes down to the type of material that is selected. Many people are choosing chrome because it lasts forever and fits in very well with the modern dcor that is so popular. Other great choices are brass, polished nickel, pewter, and wood. Remember that the color of the stand is an important part of the style, so this may help clue you in to which kind of material will be best. Just remember to look for a stand that is very sturdy and not apt to fall over at the slightest bump. People getting out of the shower or bath tend to be swinging towels around, and having a stand that falls over too easily will be a real problem. If it is heavy and sturdy, then there should be no problems with it. Heavier stands typically are made of higher quality materials, so this will help a lot with the overall selection process. When buying online, be sure to read the description of the item carefully as you make your selection. Buying online is a great way to save money.
