One of the ten charter members of the MLS, the Kansas City Wizards are entering their 15th MLS season with a temporary home at the Community/American Ballpark while construction is underway for a new home field. The Kansas City Wizards opens its 2010 season against D.C. United on March 27. Fans may remember that Kansas City's final game in the 2009 season ended in a 2-2 tie against D.C. United so this will definitely be a heated re-match.

The early years for the Wizards were not characterized by their best performances. It wasn't until the 2000 season, after the team underwent a complete overhaul, that the Wizards went on to notable success. Key acquisitions during that year were Peter Vermes, defender-turned-Technical Director, midfielder Kerry Zavagnin (now a coach), and goal scorer Miklos Molnar from Denmark. During 2000, the team went on to win the regular season championship and then the 2000 MLS Cup.

During the 2001-2003 seasons, the Wizards entered post-season play, but didn't take home any trophies. In 2004, the team won the coveted Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in an overtime defeat of the Chicago Fire. The same year, the Wizards returned to the MLS Cup finals, but suffered a heart-breaking 2-3 loss to D.C. United.

The 2005 and 2006 seasons saw a change in ownership for the team when OnGoal, LLC purchased the Wizards from the Hunt Sports Club. New head coach Curt Onalfo came on board, and the Wizards saw post-season play in 2007, where they eventually lost to Houston in the playoff rounds by a score of 0-2. In 2008, the team posted their second-best home record in team history. The team lost to the Columbus Crew in the post-season playoffs.

The Kansas City Wizards have some notable MLS veterans on their team. With eight years of MLS experience, Davy Arnaud posted five goals and two assists during his 2009 season with the Wizards. Arnaud has been a consistent performer since scoring a goal in his first start with the Wizards in 2003. However, Arnaud was a soccer standout long before joining the MLS. After scoring 13 goals and three assists in his junior year, Arnaud became the first soccer all-American in the history of West Texas A&M. He ended his three-year college soccer career with an impressive 31 goals and 11 assists and was inducted into the West Texas A&M Hall of Fame in 2008.

Defender player Jimmy Conrad boasts 11 years of MLS experience. Conrad began his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes. He was traded to Kansas City on draft day in 2003 and went on to set career highs in games played, games started, minutes played, and goals in his first season with the Wizards. He was named to the MLS Best XI and MLS All-Star Teams every year following.

The Kansas City Wizards have a difficult 2010 schedule, but they are determined to make it to the playoffs again this year. Don't miss a chance to see this team in action. Buy your tickets today before all of the seats are sold-out!
