Depending on the particular tour, Grand Canyon airplane rides show you as much as three-fourths of the National Park, that's much more than any other type of tour. You can choose between different types of plane tours. There is an air only tour and a landing tour option.

Both types are great fun. That means it all comes down to the types of things you want to see and the size of your travel budget. Here's a closer look:

Landing Flights

Sin City is one of the main hubs for Grand Canyon air tours, especially the landing variety. These are some of your choices. One very popular option is to take an airplane tour that adds on a helicopter descent to the canyon floor. You can even add an optional extension that includes a float trip down the Colorado.

Then there is a different landing tour that stays on top the rim and includes passes to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Once you're out at the farthest point, look down, you'll be 70 feet out past the edge and 4,000 feet above the bottom!

There's plenty to see and do at the rim top too, and you can take the free shuttle from point to point. Here are some points on the West Rim you will want to see:

Guano Point

The Notable Hualapai Ranch

The Fascinating Indian Cultural Center

Eagle Point Lookout

At the South Rims, there are fewer options, but the ones available are fantastic, like the Jeep ride though the Slot Canyons at Antelope Canyon and a smooth water rafting trip on the Colorado River. You can take your kids on these tours since they are on smooth water and kids as young as four are allowed.

Vegas Tours To The South Rim

There is also a very popular tour to the South Rim from Las Vegas. The flight to the South Rim from Las Vegas takes under an hour and you pass over a good deal of the park before you land at Grand Canyon National Park outside the main gates to the National Park in Tusayan, Arizona. One of the tours comes with a 2.5 hour bus tour of the Park. You can also add on a 30 minute helicopter ride that is exciting and fun.

Air Only Tours Of The Canyon

These Grand Canyon air tours fly 365 days a year out of Tuscany's GCA and out of Sin City. However, these tours stay in the air the whole trip and do not let you land in the National Park.

These are some of the points of interest you will see when your flight departs from Vegas:

The massive Hoover Dam

Beautiful Lake Mead

The canyon's West Rim

The Colorado River

The famous Grand Canyon Skywalk

You'll see a lot more before turning back and landing in Vegas.

You plane tour of the South Rim lets you see the North, East, and South Rims of the Grand Canyon. Some notable landmarks you get to see include these:

The highest point in the park called Imperial Point

Zuni Corridor

The widest part of the canyon called the Dragoon Corridor

The Desert Watchtower

The awe inspiring Temple of Ra

Your flight is 45 minutes full of amazing sights. Not only that, the airplane tour is a bargain.

The Best Flight Times

Morning is the ideal time to take an air tour of the Grand Canyon. That's when the air is clearest (great visibility!) and smoothest (less turbulence!). These factors are important to take into account during the summer months. On the other hand, sunset flights are very beautiful!

Hopefully, reading this has helped you choose between a Grand Canyon landing tour or an air-only flight. Landing tours are fantastic because you get to see the Park from the ground and from the air. But, the air only tours are the ideal option if you don't have much time or are on a limited budget. No matter which tour you choose, it will be an experience of a lifetime.
