Vitamin K is a group of methiolo-naphthoquinone derivatives. It is a fat-soluble and is needed for blood coagulation. How is it produced? It is not something that you can eat. This is something that the body must produce in order for it to get the vitamin naturally. Bacteria that are in the indigestive system, mostly the intestines, produce it. For you to have a lack of Vitamin K you may have a problem with the indigestive system like damage to your intestines.
If your doctor recommends that you take a vitamin K supplement, you may want to ask for your dosage. You should never take more than 120 mg a day. Your body cannot tolerate any higher of a daily intake. Even though the body must produce the vitamin, you will find that if you eat things like greens and certain veggies, you will be able to naturally increase your production of vitamin K.
You will want to eat anything green like lettuce or spinach, but also cabbage, broccoli, sprouts, cauliflower, wheat bran, and certain meats. If you consume dairy or beef products you should be able to produce more vitamin K. That is if you want Vitamin K1, if you would like to increase your k2, you should eat things like soybeans, egg yolks, beef liver, and cheese.
When it comes to the role that it plays in your health, vitamin K takes care of your intestines. It will also keep your bowel system irregular. If you have a vitamin K deficiency, you may have internal bleeding, malformation, or development of bone, and your arterial vessels will contract.
Some countries use to give their newborns an injection of this vitamin to prevent harmorrhagic disease or HDN. This disease has become very rare in today's society, and most babies are no longer injected the vitamin. HDN is a disease that can cause internal bleeding and bleeding in the brain. This can be very serious, but usually only develops in poor countries because of the lack of nutrient the mother had.
Since greens give off vitamin k, you should eat more salads and healthy meats. This way you will never have to worry about a deficiency, even though it's very rare in most modern societies.
