When it comes to your home, most people do not do enough to keep themselves safe. There are many excellent home security products on the market that can keep you safe at home. You can utilize a mix of these products to protect yourself from home invasions or other crimes. Many home security products are easy to install by yourself.

Alarms are one of the easiest ways to protect yourself from criminal activity. Once the noises start, no criminal will want to stay near your home for fear of being caught. Many alarms are activated by windows or doors opening, or any movement in a specified area. These motion detectors can generally be deactivated with a remote control, so you dont have to worry about your own family setting them off every time they get up in the night.

Alarms can be especially helpful during the night, providing an early warning that someone is entering your home. Some can even be placed at the end of your driveway, with motion detectors so that you know when someone is driving up to your home. These valuable seconds can give you time to react. Other alarms can be carried with you, and turned on when the need arises.

Even if you dont install alarms, you can purchase separate signs that say you have an alarm system. These will make criminals think twice, and give you some of the benefit of an alarm system without actually needing to install them. A burglar will think twice if they think that an alarm will start blaring as soon as they break in.

Dummy cameras placed outside your home are a great way to prevent people from vandalizing your home or trying to enter. Remember, they dont know its not a real camera. These are less expensive than the real thing and require almost no maintenance, yet you get the benefit of camera protection. These should be placed anywhere you would place a real camera, like the eaves of your home, above your garage door, or near your front door. Dont forget to protect the back door of your home, too.

Safety lights are another feature to protect the exterior of your home. Most are motion activated, so they will turn on when someone approaches. This can startle the person thinking about attacking your home, and often make them think twice. It is much harder to break and enter when its being done in the light than when its done in the middle of the night. With the chance that someone might see them because of the light, a criminal is much less likely to attack your home. Safety lights, like night lights, inside the home can make it easier and safer for your family to get around at night. Plus, youll be able to see whats going on without the full light being on.

Besides products to protect your home from an invasion, dont forget about pepper spray, stun guns, or other methods of protecting yourself and your family if someone should decide to break in despite your security devices.
