When you are to run a program in your PC, there are times that system glitches occur. These glitches can be traced mostly in the SYS files that are installed together with your Windows operating system. One file in particular that can be corrupted is the dxgmms1.sys. It is a Microsoft DirectX Graphics MMS system driver file that is important for program start-ups and for performing specific computer functions like printing and viewing ISO images. It supports all Windows operating systems.

Most of the problems that you will encounter are "Blue Screen of Death" or BSOD errors. These can be caused by hardware, firmware, driver, and software issues with your computer unit, such as the following:

The most common is the incorrect or corrupted installation of Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO images device drivers.

When there is a software change, Windows registry may get corrupted, resulting to a file error.

When your unit got infected by a virus or malware, this may result to a system file corruption.

Errors may occur when you incorrectly install hardware.

Damaged or removed system files.

Damaged hard drives.

Corrupted RAM.

In fixing errors with this file, you can start with the basic steps which include disabling the hardware acceleration in flash, updating your driver in the device manager, or by fixing the atikmdag "Failure to Responding" crash in your driver by increasing the voltage.

Certain error messages will pop up to tell you that you are experiencing a system glitch. Take note of the messages because they would help determine the best course of action.

Some of the display messages that are associated with BSOD errors and the recommended fixes are as follows:

For "STOP 0x0000000A: IRQL _NOT_LESS_EQUAL" and "The problem seems to be caused by the following file: dxgmms1.sys SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" errors

These error messages arise when your system detects incompatible or old graphic card drivers. Once you see this message, you will be advised to turn off your computer's power. However, even after you do this procedure, your computer seems to restart again after a few seconds. To resolve this, restart your computer in safe mode, and then uninstall the defective graphic driver that causes the error. Once done, install your latest graphic driver to make your operating system work.

For "dxgmms1.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" errors

This error message is caused by using outdated graphic drivers for your computer. To fix this issue, same procedures used for fixing system thread errors are applied.

General guidelines for repairing dxgmms1.sys errors

Repairing these errors can be difficult and time consuming. You can use these troubleshooting guidelines to do repair blue screen errors in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Update your PC's device drivers.

These system issues are likely to occur if you have outdated drivers. To avoid this, have your unit a maintenance driver check. See to it that you install updated drivers that are compatible with your device hardware.

Repair problems that are associated with your Windows Registry.

When you install third-party programs to your computer, or if it got infected by a malware, it is possible that it may corrupt your computer's registry entries that may trigger a STOP error. To prevent this, you can install a trusted registry cleaner to do the work for you.

Conduct a malware scan of your PC.

Like mentioned before, these system errors can be triggered by malwares that are infecting your computer. These malicious intruders may corrupt or damage files.

Take advantage of the Windows System Restore.

This will allow you to "undo" your computer actions and have your removed files and system to be restored back to its initial condition, like nothing has gone wrong. This may help you from doing those time consuming troubleshooting steps in fixing faulty files.

Uninstall then reinstalling programs that are associated with the file.

If an error is related with a specific program, it is recommended that you uninstall the program to get rid of the errors. Once done, you can re-install the program according to Microsoft instructions.

Use Windows System File Checker

Running this program will mean that if the system file checker detects a system error, it will automatically try to fix it. This will save you time and effort.

Check for any type of file or memory corruption.

This is one common cause for a system error to occur. Make it to point that you do a regular check-up with your RAM and other system files.

If you are still experiencing problems with the system file or are having problems determining the cause, a DLL repair tool will come in handy as well.
