Elementary school and pre-school aged children today have a wide range of educational toys to benefit from. The child finds many of these to be a great source of entertainment and fun while at the same time learning from using them. One of the more common educational toys that many parents purchase for their young child are plastic building blocks. The history of childrens building blocks dates back to the late 17th century but they continue to be a great source of education and entertainment for children today.
In addition to the fact that they are fun and safe for children to play with, plastic building blocks provide educational benefits as well, including:
Creative Benefits by creating their own unique designs with these blocks, children are able to experience the benefits of creative stimulation. However, their creativity stems from a combination of actions that are the foundation of social play. Stimulating their creative genius is extremely important during their developmental years.
Intellectual Benefits plastic building blocks help children develop their vocabularies because they learn how to recognize shapes and sizes. Through the process of adding and subtracting these blocks, or grouping them in a particular way, they learn basic math skills. Intellectual stimulation results from their experiences with balance, geometry, and gravity.
Physical Benefits children build strength in their fingers and hands when they play with plastic building blocks while at the same time improving their hand-to-eye coordination. They also become more aware of the different shapes and sizes surrounding them when they are playing with their blocks.
Social Benefits when your child plays with building blocks, they learn how to make new friends and cooperate with them. Playing with blocks is typically one of a childs first steps in the socialization process. To them, their plastic building blocks are fun to play with but what they do not realize is that they encourage imagination and interaction.
There are several types of plastic building blocks available on the market today, all of which will easily keep your young child entertained. Large varieties of these blocks are usually available at most toy stores and in the toy departments of the Big Box retailers. So there is no difficulty involved with finding them. The only challenge stems from the fact that there are numerous varieties to choose from. These blocks are not only viewed as educational toys but interactive ones as well.
No matter what types of plastic building blocks you decide to purchase for your daughter or son, you will quickly discover that the companies who manufacture them use the most vivid colors in order to grab a childs attention and promote their development through learning. They will quickly learn or teach themselves different games by using these blocks as a starting point. Eventually, they will ask their parents and their babysitters or daycare personnel what the different colors are. Before you know it, they will have learned the Alphabet Song as they learn from playing with their blocks.
