The benefits of acupuncture practices and procedures are no longer a mystery. This ancient profession has recently started gaining the spotlight, as both the general public and the medical world have started to acknowledge its merits. However, not only can acupuncture be a great therapeutic method, it can also become a career choice. Read below to find out what you need to know about acupuncture programs.

Until the mid 1970s, acupuncture was not a legal practice within the United States. However, nowadays this has all changed, and in less than 4 decades, acupuncture has become a strong and respected industry. Laws and bills governing the practice of acupuncture are passed every year and legislation regarding it is a continuous state of evolution and change. Because of this, if you are interested in becoming an acupuncturist you should first begin by studying the state and national legislation on the matter.

Your next step involves choosing one of the numerous acupuncture programs that are available out there. Most cities in the US have a college offering this type of programs so you have plenty of options to choose from. However, do make sure that the institution you end up attending is accredited. There is a list of accredited institutions available online which you can easily check at any time you wish to. The list has a total of 50 schools offering acupuncture programs, so finding one near you should not be that hard.

Requirements for attending acupuncture programs can vary quite a lot, depending on the institution that is offering the training. Some may require participants to have a 4 year college degree. However, the majority of acupuncture schools do not set such high requirements. The vast majority will only ask you for proof that you have attended a couple of courses, such as science, psychology, and physiology.

You can enroll in an acupuncture program anytime you wish to, as there is no age limit. So, if you are in your middle-age years and decide it is time for a career change, you are more than free to pursue this endeavor.

The duration of acupuncture programs can also vary significantly. Some colleges offer programs that last from 4 to 6 years, and which are usually less intense and can be attended part-time. Other colleges offer a more intense, full-time program that lasts only three years. If you already have a day job but would still like to attend an acupuncture program, you can look for an institution that offers evening classes.

You can also take the theoretical training via an online course. However, you will still be required to find centers where you can practice your skills live.

Acupuncture has been around for centuries, but it has recently become a practice anyone can easily engage in, thanks to the introduction of acupuncture programs. There are many schools and training institutions that offer this type of classes, so look around for a while; you will surely find exactly what you need.
