When we talk about uv tooth whitening is it using a whitening gel and a sun bed to whiten the teeth or are we are talking about a light based whitening method like zoom or power whitening, here we discuss both points in detail.
Teeth whitening is becoming big news as TV shows have regular makeovers which involve an individual having their teeth whitened so this plus other factors increases the awareness of teeth whitening. Many people are starting to have teeth whitening and when the results are so positive they tell friends and family and then the viral effect takes hold!
When the teeth become dull and yellowish in colour it can take a long time and therefore it is not always something that gets noticed straight away but it can take just one thing to trigger a response that starts to make us aware of the fact our teeth need some whitening. At this point people then start to turn to the internet as start their research and look at the many different options available to whiten the teeth and remove years and years of torrid staining that is inhibiting the smile in some way.
Some of the sun tanning centers are offering uv tooth whitening and what they mean is placing a whitening strip on the surface of the teeth for the duration of the sun tanning session which can be anything from three to fifteen minutes long. The idea being is that the heat generated from the ultra violet lights will send a heat in the area of the teeth and help speed the process of teeth whitening.
Like many of the DIY kit options these are fine for lighter and surface stains but the heavier deeper stains in the teeth tend to be tougher to remove with these type of systems as the strength of the gel is milder to ensure a safe experience with the gums and soft tissues etc.
The more effective uv tooth whitening system is where a machine with a set of uv lights will gently heat the gel placed of the front surface of the teeth to heat and gently remove the staining in the enamel. Because of the value the heat places in the area of the teeth this can remove deep staining in one hours treatment and just one session required for most people.
This uv tooth whitening system can be more commonly known as laser, zoom or power whitening but many of these systems use a light based method which works on the same methodology described above.
In the main teeth whitening is deemed as a safe treatment as long as it is performed by a competent, trained person or if you are using products approved by local quality standards. For example in Europe there is CE approval which is a recognized standard confirming the product has passed its quality testing.
If you are unsure then speak to your dentist and get their advice of what is best for you and your teeth. Good luck!
