Pot racks are a great way to add storage space to a kitchen without actually adding cabinets or other kitchen furniture. Pot racks ensure that pots and pans are always just an arm's reach away by dangling them up over your head. There are many different kinds of racks available, so it is important to have a good idea about exactly what you are looking for before you go shopping. Here are some things to ask yourself before you try to pick out racks for your kitchen.

Space
The first thing to figure out is how many pots and pans you need to store on the rack. Start by sorting through your pots. Remember that you will not want to store any pots that look bad on the pot rack. Only choose the newer or cleaner-looking pots and pans to store on the rack. After you have sorted through your pots and pans, then it is time to measure and weigh them. This is a very important step because not all racks can support the same size and weight of pots and pans. Make sure that you weight each pot by itself and then see how much all of them weigh together. These will be very important numbers to use when it comes to picking out the best pot racks.

Another important aspect of space is thinking about where you plan to put the rack. Pot racks come in all shapes and sizes, so it is very important to measure the space where you intend to put the rack. Remember that pot racks can be mounted on the ceiling or in the wall, and get creative with utilizing the space in the best way possible. It might not be a bad idea to check where the ceiling joists and the wall studs are located because these will be important factors when it comes to hanging the new pot rack.

Locations for Racks
Also make sure to consider several different locations for pot racks in your kitchen. The easiest way to find at least one rack that works is to have more than one option to choose from. Also some homeowners decide that they need more than one pot rack. It may be helpful to have one rack located in your main cooking area where you keep all of the pots and pans that you use all of the time. Then a second rack could be located in a more out of the way spot in your kitchen. This second rack could be used to store the pots and pans that you only use occasionally.

Another important aspect of location is height. Think about the height of your ceiling and your own height. The rack should hang just low enough for you to reach it, but not so low that several members of your family will be bumping their heads on it.

Style and Material
After space, then it is time to consider the style and material. Pot racks come in many different materials, with most of them being types of metal like chrome or cast iron. There are also many kinds of wood racks that hold pots. Think about the pots you have and how they will look with materials of different colors and types. Also remember to think about the style of your kitchen and how pot racks of different styles will look in the space. Many people consider a pot rack to be part of the dcor in their kitchen, so finding a rack that is a style that matches the rest of the kitchen is extremely important.
