One of the best ways to enjoy summer at the Grand Canyon is to take a 1-day rafting tour. Indeed, there are lots of options but if you stick to my five tips you'll end up getting the adventure that best meets your needs.
My first tip is to understand the difference between a float trip and a white water trip. Float tours are done on smooth water while white water is done on rapids. If you are searching for a 1-day rafting trip in all likelihood you want a float trip.
Another tip is book in advance. Rafting tours are in high demand during the summer months and quite often sell out. To avoid being left ashore, I highly recommend that you purchase your float trip at least a week or two ahead of time, especially if you are a group of 4 our more people.
My third tip is take the rafting trip that uses the airplane. Specifically, South Rim float tours require a 2.5-hour bus ride to the drop in point. The drive can be avoided if you take the plane option, which gets you there in 45 minutes. You also get great views of the eastern portion of the National Park.
For my fourth tip, I'd like to urge you to book online in order to get the best price. There are two kids of prices: retail and discount. If you book offline, you'll get charged the more expensive retail rate. If you buy on the Internet, you get the cheaper Web discount.
Tip #5 is stay in Tusayan, AZ, or in a lodge at Grand Canyon National Park. This is because these tours start around 7 a. M. And require a check in that's 30 minutes prior to departure. In other words, you have to get out of bed early for these trips so it's best to be in accommodations that are nearby.
And here's a bonus tip: Dress for the outdoors. You'll be spending a good amount of time enjoying the River so make sure you pack and dress for it. I recommend the following:
1. Brimmed hat2. Sun block3. Sun glasses4. River sandals or running shoes5. Salty snacks6. Swim trunks
It does get hot at the bottom of the Canyon so it's best to be as prepared as possible. Even more important is to dress comfortably in order to have a great time!
I've touched on trip options earlier but let me be clearer: There are two versions of float tours. One that requires a bus ride to the River and another that takes a plan. The former is your cheapest option and the later includes a Jeep side trip to Antelope Canyon. Both are all-inclusive (taxes, fees, lunch, etc.)
Conclusion
I hope this article about 5 tips for better 1-day Grand Canyon rafting tours helped you. Follow all or some of these tips and I assure you that you'll get the rafting adventure of your dreams. And please remember to book early. These trips are very popular during summer and have a strong tendency to sell out.
