Are you considering buying a stun gun to protect yourself from a violent threat? Are you wondering which of the available models is the best one for you to carry? With so many different styles, it can be difficult to choose the best self defense product.
The first decision is what size or shape of stun gun would be best for you to carry. Many men opt for the regular-sized stun gun, which has a larger size that is more comfortable in larger hands. Most of these stun gun options come in masculine-looking styles and can be carried in a belt holster.
On the other hand, if you prefer to carry your nonlethal self defense device in your purse or pocket, a traditional-looking stun gun might not be the best option for you. You might want to look for a mini stun gun, or even one designed to look like a cell phone. These devices are small enough to fit inside a package of cigarettes, making them easily concealed, yet their small size does not compromise any power. There are even versions made in pink, silver, and other fashionable colors.
In addition to the cell phone stun gun, which is disguised as a cell phone, there are other styles that combine a stun gun with other devices. For example, the stun baton offers the ability to physically defend yourself while maintaining a safe distance from your attacker. There are also stun flashlights, which provide a helpful security feature if you are attacked in the dark. The downside is that stun batons and flashlights, unlike mini stun guns, tend to be larger and harder to conceal. This style is often preferred by security guards, as well as those who often find themselves outdoors at night or who want a more hands-on method of self defense.
Once you've selected the right stun gun style, the next consideration is voltage. Most people shopping for a stun gun end up wondering how many volts they need. How much power is too much? And how low is too low? Certainly you don't want to kill someone with your stun gun, but at the same time, it will do you no good if the voltage is too low to stop your attacker in his tracks. Because stun guns have a low amperage current, even a very high voltage will not be lethal. Even the highest voltage stun guns on the market today, which offer a million volts of power or more, will not produce a lethal current, so get the highest voltage you can find.
Finally, there are few useful features and extras that you should look for when buying a stun gun. A disable pin, which is attached to the wrist strap, prevents the unit from working if it is taken from you by the assailant. Though it is unlikely that an attacker would be able to get your stun gun away from you before you'll able to use it, it can happen, so get a stun gun with a disable pin to protect yourself.
Another useful feature is the ability to recharge the stun gun. Some stun guns use regular batteries, which must be replaced every few months. A rechargeable stun gun allows you to use the same set of rechargeable batteries over and over. Just plug in your stun gun occasionally to ensure that it maintains a charge.
Finally, a holster can be a very important accessory. Self defense devices are only effective if you keep them on you at all times. Having a holster increases the chances that you will have your stun gun, and that it will be within reach, in case you ever need it.
By shopping for the best stun gun to meet your needs, you may truly be sparing yourself and your family a lot of trouble and pain in the future. Now is the time to take the steps to protect your loved ones from violent crime.
