Shopping for end tables is a lot of fun, but it can be a very big task also. There are so many different tables to choose from, and you want to be sure that you are getting good quality end tables, even if you do manage to find a great price on them. After all, a great price is only as great as the quality of the tables you purchase for it. Here are some simple tips for saving money on end tables.

Purchasing Sets

First try to purchase these tables in a set. Often sets come with two end tables and a coffee table, so make sure that you need a coffee table before following this route. Remember you will only save money if you actually need the other items in the set.

Purchase Closeout and Clearance Pieces

Another great way to save money on these tables is to look for tables that are no longer going to be manufactured. Retailers always put these tables on sale to get rid of them quickly, and they especially want to be rid of the tables if they need to make room for new models. Of course you may want the latest style of table, but just remember that tables do not actually change a whole lot from year to year. When a manufacturer stops making a particular model, it does not necessarily mean that the replacement model will be much different than the original. This is especially true of tables that have a very classic look to them. Odds are the manufacturer is simply changing the table lineup a bit.

Look for Slightly Damaged Items

Of course everyone wants to be sure that the tables they purchase are perfect, but some retailers have a "scratch and dent" section of their store. This section includes items that may have been slightly damaged on the way from the factory to the store. In some cases, we may be talking about a very small scratch in an inconspicuous place. These small scratches can mean big savings when it comes to tables, and especially when dealing with solid wood tables, the scratches should not have any effect on the craftsmanship of the table. It may even be possible to refinish the table and get rid of that scratch.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an end table

Also remember that end tables can be just about anything you can imagine. Some nightstands look like end tables, and some wicker cubes can also be great end tables if they have a lid. Just remember that the style of the piece is more important than what the piece was actually designed for. Make sure that any end table you choose is about the same size as the furniture you already have. Dainty tables do not work well with huge pieces of furniture, and modern furniture doesn't match very well with some antique tables.

Measure, Measure, Measure

Finally, make sure that you measure the space you have available to you before shopping. If the end tables do not fit in the space you have, then they are not a savings. You would be surprised how many people go shopping for tables and then forget to measure their space. End tables are often squeezed into the smallest space available in a living room or family room, so it is far too easy to purchase a table that is larger than the available space.

Just remember that you must be absolutely certain about the tables before you purchase. If you aren't sure you will like them, then just keep looking. This is especially true for tables that are bought at a low price using the tips in this article because usually it will be difficult getting the retailer to take them back.
