After the hype of spring, summer and fall weddings, the possibility of winter weddings is largely forgotten. Winter weddings can be wonderlands of candy canes, snowflakes and large, inviting, intimate fires. Picture rolling white hills, softly falling snow and rustic sleigh rides. If you�re located anywhere in the northeast or northwest, your response is most likely, �HA!� But in all seriousness, winter weddings can be budget friendly, advantageous and still captivate the romantic nature of the winter season. Planning can be a little more relaxed, you�ll have stronger bargaining power with vendors and you can allow your creative streak to run wild with unique winter d�cor and favors.
Getting Down to Business. The economy lately has left most couples extremely budget-conscious. Luckily, the costs of winter weddings tend to be lower because they are off-season. Planners, DJ�s and venues see less business during the colder months of year and are all vying for you! Costs will be lower and you�ll have more negotiating power with your vendors. However, florists and jewelers may not particularly fall under this category. Certain flowers are not as readily available in the winter months, so their price will reflect this. Moreover, jewelers aren�t necessarily hit by the winter doldrums because of the steady stream of holidays from Halloween to Valentine�s Day. Check your local jewelers for wedding rings and other bridal jewelry still as sales are always prevalent during the holidays.
Freedom of Choice. Remember that beautiful historical inn that you�ve been dreaming of getting married at since you were a little girl? Remember all the headaches you thought you�d have trying to reserve one date that wasn�t 6 years away? Stop popping those Tylenol and relax. You�re more likely to get that dream castle reception and ceremony in the winter. Fewer people have their weddings then, so there are fewer people to fight with to get your date!
So you�ve had your dream wedding. What about your dream honeymoon? Absolutely! The same concepts apply to the honeymoons. Less people are honeymooning or vacationing in November or January. But feel free to mix it up a little bit. By having a winter wedding, you�re already differentiating yourself from every.other.boring.couple. Embrace the season and rent a log cabin in Lake Placid for a week. Go skiing in Colorado or visit the Ice Hotel in Quebec, Canada. If you�re not a big fan of the snow, take a traditional honeymoon to the Bahamas or Costa Rica. Again, there will be fewer people which will make for a much more intimate honeymoon.
