There are many choices for self defense, including pepper spray, stun guns, knives, or guns. There are many excellent reasons for choosing pepper spray for your self defense needs. Pepper spray is an effective yet safe way to stun your attacker, enabling you to get away. Plus, it is easy to carry and use, and requires no special training.
Many people believe that pepper spray will not be effective enough, but this is far from the case. Imagine spraying water in your attackers face. This will stun them for at least a second. Pepper spray, of course, is much stronger than water, because it contains a potent inflammatory that causes temporary blindness and constricted breathing.
Unlike most other self defense weapons, pepper spray will not harm your attacker in the long run, which can make it a good option for those who do not wish to inflict serious bodily harm even if the person is attacking them. The effects can last up to 45 minutes, giving you plenty of time to get away. Yet there is no risk of long-term harm like there would be with a knife or gun. You must be comfortable with your self defense choice, because carrying a gun, knife, or other item does no good if you are afraid to use it should the time come.
The pepper spray has a distance of over 6 feet, so you dont need to be within arms reach of your attacker to use it. In fact, some are effective at distances of up to 15 feet. Usually, the larger cans of pepper spray have a longer range. In a situation where you are being attacked, it can be very dangerous to let the attacker approach you to arms length before defending yourself, and pepper spray allows you to fight back before the attacker comes too close.
It requires no skill to successfully use the spray against an attacker. Just turn the safety latch off, point it at the attacker, and press the button. The stream will shoot six to eight feet out, catching your attacker off guard and allowing you time to flee. Unlike other self-defense methods, you do not need to be terribly accurate; even if you are trained to fight or to use a gun or knife, you may not be able to remember your training in an emergency situation.
When carrying pepper spray, you are much less likely to be asked questions than if carrying a weapon. Pepper spray is used often for self-defense, and comes in convenient keychain-sized containers. In most locations, it is completely legal to walk around with pepper spray for self-defense purposes, although youll of course want to check with your local jurisdiction first. It can be carried around day-to-day without anyone questioning why it is in your purse or pocket. Some even come disguised as lipstick containers or pens, which can make you even more comfortable carrying pepper spray with you.
Pepper spray is one of the most inexpensive ways to protect yourself. And of course, it is better to spend a few dollars today than to wish you had pepper spray at some time in the future. Even if you have not considered purchasing a device for self defense, pepper spray makes a wise investment for your safety.
