A lot of people get the wrong idea when they encounter the words “winload.exe.” They would immediately think that it’s a virus, spyware, or worm. Well, that could be the case, but only if you find it outside the system32 folder. “Winload” actually functions as an operating system loader. Winload was first introduced in Vista. Today, the executable can be found in 7, 8, and 8.1.
So, what exactly happens when there’s a Winload error? Here are some that you might encounter:
Cannot start the CPU or central processing unit of your computer
Boot up failure
On the recovery screen (with background colors such as black, blue or grey), there would be a pop-up message
While in the middle of a process, the system crashes and freezes
Digital signatures cannot be verified
As you probably know, error codes appear alongside PC troubles. To satisfy your code curiosity, here are some examples:

Winload.exe missing vista
Winload.exe boot error

What causes the infamous Winload.exe error? The primary reason is a missing or corrupted Winload file. Why does it disappear or get corrupted? It could be because of the following:
Presence of virus or malware
Faulty Random Access Memory or RAM of the computer
Outdated software
Incorrectly installed software
Incorrectly updated software
Problem in the security system features
Preventive Measures
As with all things, prevention is better than cure. Avoid having these problems by doing the following:
Take good care of your computer. Maintain it properly and regularly. According to computer technicians, lack of proper computer maintenance is among the most common reasons why Winload errors take place.
Update the computer as often as necessary. Make sure that the antivirus is updated at all times.
Be careful when removing or installing programs. Programs that are not fully uninstalled can corrupt registry keys. On the other hand, some applications end up deleting important executables when installed.
Sometimes though, even the most careful computer owners and users still encounter crashes and errors. How can these be resolved?
The most important thing to do is to assess the cause of the error. This is the key to remedy the problem. For instance, if the cause is a virus, then you need to scan the whole system with your antivirus software.
If the Windows installation was not properly done, then just insert your Windows Installation disc. Restart your computer. Follow the dialog boxes and when asked what to do, click “repair your computer”. Wait for the procedure to be completed. When done, restart the computer and check the results.
Using the same installation disc, you could also continue until you reach the system recovery option then simply key in “bootrec” or “rebuildbcd.” The program will run by itself and you just have to wait until it finishes. Again, after the procedure, shut down the computer and then restart it.
If you do not have the installation disc anymore for some reason, or if the computer did not come with the disc originally, there’s still a way to solve the issue. First, check the version of your PC’s OS (is it XP, Vista, 7 or 8?); then, do a full system recovery to replace every vital component of the operating system. That’s a fairly automated process. All you have to do is click on a few buttons and wait.
Doing a system file check is a potentially quicker way to fix the error. This would cause all the corrupted files to be replaced with working versions.
You could also try to repair the registry, since errors are sometimes caused by corrupted registry keys. However, this is only recommended if you are an expert in doing registry repairs. Otherwise, you might cause more harm than good, especially if you end up removing properly functional registry entries.
Ready to Troubleshoot
At this point, you’re more than knowledgeable about Winload issues. So, you should be able to fix your PC without spending anything. However, if you’ve tried all possible solutions and your computer still has problems, you shouldn’t hesitate to have it repaired by a trustworthy technician.
