Indianapolis based company, Synovia Corporation, is coming up with a few different types of technology-based programs to help save schools money. The came out with one technology that was a card that bus drivers used to clock in to their driving day and it automatically racked their time and sorted out weather it was field trip, regular school hours or after schools activities. By creating this technology and having all bus drivers switch to this type of time management, it has saved the district more than $260,000. The overestimation of time worked by bus drivers, even if 9its just a couple of unites each day, was costing the district more than what they were actually getting labor for. Another system that Synovia Corporation has created was a mobile terminal that lets the bus drivers communicate with a local dispatcher in the case on an emergency. The mobile terminal also has an emergency button that will call for local emergency support if pressed.
Another technology that is like Synovias bus driver time clock key card, is Education Logistics Incorporated, they created application that is used on a bus drivers phone that allows them to enter an employee number and clock it on a mobile device. Instead of having to gather to one common are to clock in, bus drivers can now cut time by having the option of clocking their hours on a mobile device. Another great feature of this technology is when a bus driver is nearing forty hours for one work week, it automatically alerts the district and then the district can assign other bus drivers that have less time, to field trips and after school activitys. This system has saved the school system about one million dollars in just the past year because of it saving money from paying overtime and overestimated time worked by the employees.
The company SchoolDude is known for its online software that is used for inventory management and helps school officials and tech managers with helpdesk support. They are creating a program that helps schools regain the costs that occur when the community uses the school campus after school hours. Another great invention that is saving schools money is the Dyson Air blade; this is a handheld dryer that dries hand completely in just twelve seconds. The air comes out at more than 400 miles per hour and it can dry twenty-two pairs of hands for the cost of a single paper towel. Not only is this invention cost savvy for the schools, but also it helps reduce waste to make our world a better place. The Destiny Textbook manager is a system that uses barcode on all school materials, such as books, textbooks or other valuable material. This system links the barcode to the specific student and helps reduce theft or loss of items since the students are held responsible for the items.
Technology is reducing a lot of costs for schools. Initially the schools will have to pay for the technology, which may seem pricy at first, but the benefits and savings that a school can anticipate over time, is well worth the initial cost.
