The city of Plymouth has an exceptional array of bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes, and other entertainment facilities, all centrally located within the boundaries of the city centre.

The Barbican, where Sir Francis Drake set sail, is one of the best night spots in the South West. You can enjoy a leisurely meal in one of the many restaurants that serve fresh locally caught fish, sample the famous locally produced Plymouth Gin in the Black Friars Distillery, which has been a working distillery since 1793, followed by a romantic walk around the cobbled streets and the beautiful harbour.

If you are looking for a more lively evening, the Barbican also offers a huge variety of modern bars serving cocktails, and old fashioned pubs offering real ales, where people of all ages gather for an evening of fun, laughter and beautiful surroundings. You can even enjoy drinking al-fresco on a lazy summers evening under the umbrella covered seating area, which is situated outside some of the most popular bars, with outdoor heaters for those slightly chillier evenings. There are also two very popular nightclubs situated on the Barbican where you can dance until the early hours.

Mutley Plain and North Hill are about a 15 minute walk from the Barbican and both host a variety of pubs and bars, these areas of the city are both very popular with students as they are adjacent to the University of Plymouth campus. Union Street is also famous for its nightlife, several nightclubs are situated on this street to suit all tastes and genres of music, and you really can spend all night dancing and drinking here!

For those of an adventurous nature, there are plenty of activities in Plymouth to get involved in. Plymouth Ski Centre has a dry ski slope where qualified instructors provide skiing and snow-boarding lessons, there is also tobogganing and sno-tubing to experience.

The National Marine Aquarium, situated on the harbour front on the Barbican boasts the deepest aquarium tank in Europe. Home to over 4000 animals from 400 species, you can discover the world of underwater life, and learn about the amazing creatures that live in our deep oceans.

The Mount Batten Centre offers a variety of water sports and activities for all ages. Situated on the outskirts of Plymouth, Mount Batten can be reached by the water taxi that runs regularly from the Barbican to Mount Batten. This training centre offers sailing, climbing, canoeing, abseiling and much more. With overnight accommodation and hospitality facilities, you can make a weekend of it, and experience adventure and exhilaration.

Plymouth is also home to Plymouth Pavilions, an entertainment, events, leisure and concert hall. The Pavilions hosts many concerts of all genres of music entertainment, including some of todays biggest stars, comedians, childrens entertainment, and sports competitions such as Plymouth Raiders basketball championships. Plymouth Pavilions also has an indoor ice rink with sessions to suit all, including family ice discos, and an indoor swimming pool with flumes, waterfalls and a wave machine.

The Theatre Royal Plymouth is at the forefront of promoting theatre in the South West. With two theatre spaces, the Drum theatre presents new plays, with the main Theatre Royal stage playing host to musical productions and major touring dramas. TR2 is their education centre, they provide rehearsal facilities, set, costume and prop-making amenities, and their Creative Learning programme offers opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in lighting, drama, sound, design and other areas of theatre production.

Plymouth truly does have a lot to offer, and is a great place for people of all ages.
