The removal of warts has been a preoccupation of natural medicine for a very long time. Some of the cures which have evolved over the centuries have a proven track record of success. Some of them are less so, and some again are just cranky nonsense. Here is a list of ways that modern day folks use to get rid of warts, and which have some degree of efficacy.
As you may or may not know, warts are completely harmless. They are a simple infection of the HPV or human papillomavirus, which is found world wide wherever people exist. It's impossible to avoid and is quite easy to catch and spread.
You can get HPV through ordinary skin to skin contact with an infected person, and by wearing clothing or shoes belonging to an infected person. HPV is also easily spread through sexual contact, and is classed as a sexually transmitted disease, or STD.
In appearance, warts come in a range of colors and textures. Warts on the face, arms or torso may be slightly raised, may be a bit rough in texture, and may range from very pale to a light reddish brown in color.
Warts on the soles of the feet, known as plantar warts, are flat, and tend to be white in color.
With the exception of genital warts, most warts can be treated at home with varying degrees of success. Genital warts should NEVER be treated at home for two reasons: they are more difficult to diagnose and so may be confused with a more serious STD, and they are VERY quickly and easily spread.
With that little health warning aside, let's move on to our three simple home wart removal remedies.
1) Vitamin A has been successfully used to treat warts. The method is simple. Start with vitamin A in liquid capsule form. Break open a capsule and spread the contents over the affected area.
Bandage, repeat daily, and observe the results over one week. If you do not see the results you want, move on to cure number two.
2) Vitamin C is a very powerful nutrient proven to have massive positive effects on our health. However, vitamin C is also quite irritating to the exposed skin, so should be used topically with a bit of caution. The method: grind a vitamin C tablet to a powder, and mix with a few drops of water to make a paste. Apply to the affected skin and bandage.
Repeat daily and observe the results for one week. Should you see that your warts are starting to die off, keep at it. However, if your skin starts to look raw and irritated, discontinue and try this next method.
3) Bananas (yes, bananas!) can be quite useful in the fight against warts. As any doctor will tell you, bananas are a powerful source of potassium, which is an essential mineral for our health. The wart virus does not like potassium, however, and finds it quite toxic. So, take a small piece of banana peel and rub the inside part of the skin against the affected skin.
Keep clean, and repeat daily. Observe the results for more than a week to see if it works for you. There are no drawbacks to this method, other than that you will carry a faint odor of banana with you!
If none of these do the job for you, do not give up. There is a range of treatments to try, some of which use easily found home products, others of which will require a trip to the pharmacy or your doctor. At the end of the day, your warts may disappear with no intervention from you whatsoever. In some cases, doing nothing may be the most effective method for the removal of warts.
