In the middle of a working week, a few weeks ago, you had attended a luxurious wedding of a colleagues sister. The event left an impression in your mind and later on when you received the news that your cousin Adeline was getting married and visiting you next week for her weeding trousseau you knew what to advise her on. The next Sunday seated with the Adeline there was a general discussion in the family room when she mentioned since she was a doctor by profession she had very little time at hand but wanted this occasion to be perfect. You asked her if she was looking for an even planner for this occasion and with her confirmation you called in your colleague and took the number of Miranda who was the event planner. Miranda, being free for the evening, invites both of you to her home. At sharp 5:00 PM both of you visit her at home and find it a beautiful natures nest in a concrete jungle.

The Role and Importance of an Event Planner

After the initial introduction you ask about her educational background and what made her choose this career. Miranda smiles and explains the dynamics of an event planner. An Event is an occasion which can be corporate, a traditional festival celebration, or a family occasion like a wedding, anniversary, birthday party. Any event brings in challenges with it like identifying the correct location for the event, designing the food menu and cultural activities etc. The most important work is to co ordinate all the major and sub activities to make the occasion a success. Due to the paucity of time, these fine tunings are left in the deft hands of an event planner.

Planning for an Event

Adeline is mesmerized seeing the wedding portfolio that displays the different work that she has done. She requests Miranda to be the event planner for her wedding dinner. Miranda looks into her appointment diary and agrees to take charge of the dinner event. You ask how she would plan the event. Miranda shares with you certain guidelines.

Miranda mentions that she is always aware that events like a wedding dinner are expensive affairs and the budget allocation is important.

The second notion that is very important is to understand the personal preferences of the couple and the family while designing the interiors, food menus and the invitation cards. There should always be a unique personal element attached to the occasion. For corporate events it could be a brand image or a reminder of the occasion due to which the company is holding the event.

Identifying the venue location for the event and most importantly assessing the total people attending the event is a must.

Coordination with the various sub departments like the caterers or the room decorators, and communication with the family is needed and one has to be very tactful and patient here.

Adeline would have loved to stay on for an hour more but you are reminded that you have guests coming for dinner and hurry back. Miranda takes your number and fixes her next appointment with the family next Sunday. You hope this event is a success and mentally wish Miranda luck.
