If you嚙緞e always been interested in a healthcare profession, there嚙編 no better time to pursue your ideal career than right now. As the largest growing industry in our economy, the healthcare field remains an excellent option for anyone looking for a lucrative and rewarding career. Whether you嚙緝e hoping to become a doctor or you嚙緝e interested in medical sales, there are plenty of directions in which you can pursue a healthcare profession.

Direct Patient Care

Working directly with patients is probably the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the healthcare profession. In order to pursue this path, professionals must achieve high levels of education and receive multiple certifications. Becoming a Doctor of Medicine is one of the most challenging academic pursuits that exist. In order to become a doctor, you must first complete a four-year degree from an accredited university. While degrees in chemistry, biology, and other science-related fields are most popular, you can actually receive your undergraduate degree in almost any subject. Once you嚙緞e earned a bachelor嚙編 degree, you must then apply and gain acceptance into a medical school. There, you嚙締l face a four-year program with the first two years comprised mostly of coursework, and the last two focused on rotations in a clinical setting. After the medical degree has been earned, physicians in the United States are required to complete at least one internship, a year of residency, and additional specialty training.

The financial and academic challenges of medical school may deter some individuals from working toward the degree. Becoming a physician is not your only option, however, if you would like to pursue a career in direct patient care. There are multiple other opportunities that don嚙緣 require as much education or take as large of a financial commitment as medical school. Some of the other professions in direct patient care include:

嚙瞇ursing

嚙瞑hysical Therapy

嚙瞑hysician Assistant

嚙瞇urse Practitioner

嚙瘠ertified Nursing Assistant

嚙璀nd more

Healthcare Administration

For natural leaders who have a passion for the medical industry, a profession in healthcare administration may be the perfect fit. Though most colleges and universities offer a bachelor嚙編 degree in healthcare administration, almost all professionals have their master嚙編 degrees in the field as well. As a healthcare administrator, there are two main directions in which you may pursue a career. As a generalist, you can oversee the operations of an entire facility. This usually requires coordinating meetings, safety updates, and new projects. Specialists, on the other hand, are responsible for specific hospital operations, like budgeting, marketing, human resources, accounting, finance, and more.

Public Health

Another great way to become involved in the healthcare field is to work for a non-profit or government-run public health agency. Public health education is a popular career path that involves educating everyone from children and young adults to middle-aged or even elderly adults throughout the country. Case managers, another popular position, are more specialized public health professionals who assist at-need clients with their medical schedules, living expenses, and mental health. Most public health professionals eventually end up specializing their education by receiving master嚙編 degrees in public health or social work.

Medical Sales

If you have excellent communication skills and a vibrant personality, you may be interested in medical sales. This profession requires extremely specified knowledge of technical products and an understanding of their medical uses. This is a great field for those who want to be involved in the healthcare field, but aren嚙緣 as interested in direct patient care. Medical sales usually involves holding meetings or attending conferences with doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, and physicians at private practices in order to pitch a product. Anyone interested in this field should be prepared to travel, as many products can be sold on a national, or even international, level.
