With over 200 courses in the area, Scottsdale is a golfers paradise. Whether you are looking to play some of the famous Sonoran Desert courses or the same courses youve seen on the PGA tour, the courses in Scottsdale offer challenges for every level of golfer. However, playing 18 holes out here in the desert heat is no walk in the park, and there are a couple of things every golfer needs to remember before stepping out onto the course. By following a few simple tips, youll ensure that you have the opportunity to shoot a great round and enjoy yourself afterwards as well.
Stretch Before You Start
Especially during the latter days of your trip, stretching before and after your round of golf can be key to playing well throughout your trip and sustaining your general well-being after you step off the course. Because it gets so hot in Scottsdale, oxygen does not reach your muscles at the normal rate your body is used to. This means you will have a higher risk of severe muscle cramps throughout your time in Scottsdale. In order to reduce your risk of muscle cramps, its vital that you stretch in the morning before your round and immediately after you walk off the course. When you golf, your back, hips, and legs take the most wear and tear, and there are a few stretches you can do that will keep these areas loose and powerful.
Hamstring stretch- Lie on the floor near the outer corner of a wall and extend one leg vertically in the air. Rest the heel of that leg against the wall and straighten your leg until you feel a stretch.
Knee-to-chest stretch While youre already laying down, pull one knee to your chest, keeping your other leg straight. This stretch will focus on the muscles in your lower back.
Hip flexor stretch Kneel on one leg and extend your other leg in front of your body. Lean forward until you feel a stretch on the outer thigh area.
Standing torso rotation Extend both arms out to your sides and turn your torso to the left and right to loosen up your oblique muscles
Water, Water, Water
Its no secret that out here in the desert the afternoon heat can take its toll. Staying hydrated is not just important for your health, but may also keep your game focused and help you shoot a better score. The morning of your round, you should try to drink at least two glasses of water with your breakfast. Getting your body prepared early on will help when the afternoon heat comes around. Also, pack multiple bottles of water for every player in your group. Frozen water bottles are a must, and its guaranteed theyll be melted and ice cold by the time you hit the turn. Having a wet towel to wipe your face and neck is another great option to keep you on your game.
Reserve a Nice Spot for the 19th Hole
Once youve tallied up your score card and prepared your body for some rest and relaxation, make sure youve lined up a spot at one of the luxurious clubhouses or restaurants nearby. If you were smart enough to hold off on the alcohol until after your round, treat yourself to a unique cocktail or fresh local micro-brew. Also, dont forget to make reservations at one of the many fine restaurants in Scottsdale to try out the local cuisine. The chefs in Scottsdale are constantly creating new dishes packed with flavor, so you cant go wrong in selecting your evening getaway. If your tee time isnt too early the next morning, check out one of Scottsdales celebrity hotspots - where sports stars, musicians, and movie stars alike go to enjoy themselves after hours. But, dont forget to drink some water before you go to bed so youll be hydrated and ready to roll for that last round of golf.
