For many of us brands play an important part in our purchase behaviour as we get drawn in to buying products and services through a emotional tie to that brand and here we look at some of the reasons.
Brands are clever to tap in to our emotions though the use of advertising and marketing so lets look at some everyday brands we consume.
Since the recession which started back in 2008 many of us have had to make some tough decisions on whether to purchase a particular product or service by a brand we love or go for unbranded and pay less money as a way of tightening our purse strings.
If you take some of everyday actions that uses brands we love and trust like watching TV. Channels like Sky and the BBC are well trusted brands and that is why when we switch we are able to watch programs we know have been produced to a good standard. Another example is when we use the internet and go straight to Google as our default search engine. We know when using Google the search results are reliable and trusted and for this reason they remain one of our top loved brands.
If brands were not important then life would be dull. Brand give us an identity and make us individual and also proud to wear that brand. Some brands are more noticeable than others. For example anyone driving an Aston Martin is going to get noticed but someone else who might wear a Thomas Pink shirt might not be so obvious as they do not have huge badges on the front of them.
In the fashion world our love of brands will change as we age and our tastes move on. Many young people love having big brand logos placed on their clothes as it says something about them and their style. When we get older we like our brands but want to maintain a more discreet approach.
Marketeers are looking at all age groups. For example the younger children Disney brands like Toy Story and Hanna Montana have created huge success stories from TV shows and then feature films and combined with massive merchandise there are a huge range of products on offer which the kids and the parents buy in to spending millions on their favourite brands.
Watches are another area when we are likely to but the brand over the style of watch. Tag Heuer have sponsored lots of famous sporting and film stars to try and encourage us to purchase their products. So anyone who might be an avid fan of Lewis Hamilton might purchase a tag because he is one of their sporting ambassadors. Dont get me wrong Tag make lovely stylish watches but you get my point.
Lastly the iphone is another good example of our brand loyalty. Apple launched the new iphone4 which has had some mixed reviews but because of the brand has not put people off from buying the latest Apple smartphone!
