A writing table is home to inspiration and style. Of course many people do not use a writing table for what it was originally meant to be used for because of how widespread computer usage now is, but many people simply like having a small, plain desk where they can sit and write in their journal or perform basic clerical tasks like paying bills.
Usually a writing desk is a very plain piece of furniture. Some of these desks may have one small drawer, although there are quite a few that provide just a surface and no drawers for storage. Anyone who is looking for a writing table usually has a very specific function in mind, but there are some other things that should be remembered when looking for a writing desk.
Use
The first thing shoppers should remember when looking for a writing table is that its use is a bit different than that of a desk. The smaller size of a writing desk makes it the perfect solution for someone who wants to try to fit a desk into a small space. Sometimes the need for a desk is great, but the amount of space is very small. In this case, a writing desk provides the best of both worlds. However, shoppers should also remember that they will not be able to fit as many things on a writing table as they will on a desk. They might be able to set a laptop computer on it, but a full size desktop computer will probably not be an option when you are dealing with a small writing desk.
Another common use for a writing table is simple as a flat surface to fill a space. A writing desk adds quite a bit of character in a space that would otherwise sit empty. Also it may provide a small space with a drawer where all of your monthly bills can wait to be paid.
Style
No matter what kind of use you intend the writing desk for, style is also very important. A writing table that does not fit with the rest of your dcor is not a good choice. Before you go shopping, think about what kind of space you need the table for. If you plan to put it in your bedroom, take a closer look at your bedroom furniture and take note of the style and wood or metal color. Then take care to look for a writing table that matches. Some styles are so common that finding a matching table is very easy. For example, one of the most popular styles right now is the mission style, and there are many bedroom sets and writing tables that fit the mission style.
Price
Price is also an important thing to think about when purchasing a writing desk. Sometimes a great way to save a little money on a desk is to go for a writing desk instead of a full-sized desk. If you need to save even more money, consider purchasing an RTA, or ready-to-assemble writing table. These tables are usually very inexpensive and can be found at common retailers like Target or Walmart. Just remember that you will have to assemble the desk yourself, although usually anyone can do it without too many problems. As you are putting the table together, look for ways to strengthen the construction of the table. Epoxy is a great way to make a table stronger. Just glue the sides of the table together as you use the screws to fasten it. If the construction of the table uses dowels, use epoxy on the ends of the dowels as you fasten the pieces of the table together. This will make your RTA table last a very long time.
