These days many people choose to work from the comfort of their own home, this gives them the ability to decide what hours they will work. Personally I find that working from home is great, mainly due to the fact that I can still be a full time mother to my children. My partner is currently the one who works full time, so doing a couple of hours writing at home earns me a little extra cash, (which is never a bad thing). It has never been easier to find work from home, all you need to do is a little research to find the right work from home job which best suit your needs and skills.
Here are a few tips for those of you are considering working at home:
* Try to find yourself a good workplace within your home - make sure that this is away from any distractions. Although this can be quite difficult if you are a parent with young children. If you are hard pushed to find a place you can use just for work, don't panic! Instead I would suggest that you clear a space at a table or other flat surface.
* Decide which hours you wish to work - don't commit yourself to working several hours a day, having a work timetable is a great way to divide you day effectively. Once you have chosen your working hours, stick to it! It is quite easy to fall into bad habits when working at home, so try to have that extra bit of "get up and go". It is still likely that you will still work a few extra hours, especially when you are new to the work and as time progresses you will be able to manage your work load.
* Don't become so engrossed in working at home, that you forget what the outside world is like. Always try to make time for social outings such as lunch with a friend or a short walk.
* Those who have opted for freelance work should consider joining some forums related to your work. This will put you in touch with others in your work niche, where you can share tips and get advice.
Remember that when you work from home you may need a separate insurance policy, this is because items you use for working may not be covered by your general household insurance. Should anything unexpected happen, you may not be covered so I would suggest that you check with your insurance provider.
Those of you who wish to freelance from home should also be aware of freelance based companies who charge a "one off fee", you should never pay to work. Treat working at home the same as you would any other regular job, you wouldn't pay an employer before you could start work! I have heard far too many stories about new freelancers being ripped off and never actually receiving any work. This is why I have suggested joining forums, in doing this you gain hear valuable advice from those who have been there already.
