When we think about a home business, a lot of us assume it either has to be a full time occupation or something that only other people do and not us. But does this really have to be the case, or is there another route to success with a home business?
Part time or occasional home working is perhaps better than the full time route in the beginning. Indeed it can sometimes be the best way to start a home business in the first place. There are plenty of full timers who work from home now who started off in the beginning by getting involved part time in their spare hours of the day.
There are distinct advantages to doing this, not least the fact that you dont have to risk your full time job to do it. Instead you just have to figure out what the best time of day is to fit an hour or two in on your home business, and work according to that. If you get very busy on a regular basis and start making decent money, youll know you have reached the stage where you can consider cutting back on your regular job or perhaps even leaving it altogether. But you dont need to do that unless and until you manage to bring the level of income from your part time home working activities to an acceptable amount.
Some people start earning money by working from home at certain times of the year. An example of this is when a mum starts a spring clean and sells items she no longer need or want on eBay. Some people do this at this time of year purely to help them earn the money they need to pay for their summer holiday for instance.
Another good example would be selling gifts on eBay in the run up to Christmas. You can make a lot of money at this time of year because everyone is looking for gifts to buy. You may only sell a trickle of things during the rest of the year, but those three months can produce huge sales if you time it right.
The truth is then that working full time from home is not the only option available to you. If you have been struggling with the idea of whether you can make a home business work for you when you have bills to pay and so on, narrow your focus and think about doing it part time instead. This works for lots of people because you can bring in a smaller income from home working and build it up at the speed and level that suits you and your other obligations.
Plenty of people have reached the stage where the decision to go full time is virtually made for them. They will find that they would have to scale back on their home business in order to continue working for someone else, for instance. If this is the kind of decision you want to be making at some point in the future, work towards it now by starting off on a part time basis.
