When you decide to start your own housecleaning service, you have to decide on all the different services you would like to offer. Its up to you to decide the services you want to add as part of your housecleaning agency.
In other words, you must offer the services that are in high demand, i.e. those that your clients want and need. When you are in the housecleaning business you will come across two different types of clients: recurring and one-time. Recurring customers are those who are your loyal customers and will want their house cleaned regularly. One-time clients are those who will get their home cleaned once and you will never see them again.
Depending on these two types of customers, you can understand what types of cleaning services you should offer.
Recurring Services: Recurring clients may request your services weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on their requirements. For your regular clients you can offer the following services:
- Spring cleaning (for initial housecleaning)
- Maintenance/ regular cleaning will be continued after the initial cleaning on regular intervals.
One-time Services: For your one-time clients, here is what you can offer:
- Regular cleaning: This is the initial and most basic housecleaning you will be offering your clients. Develop an initial plan that includes all the tasks you need to perform for the session. You can sit down with the homeowner to understand exactly what he needs from your services.
- Spring cleaning: Spring cleaning is the same as regular cleaning with a few extra services added to it. You can choose what extra services you would like to offer or you could make a decision after you see the clients house and understand their needs.
- Move-in and move-out cleaning: This is again similar to what you would offer in a spring cleaning service but without furniture cleaning. Some housecleaning agencies clean insides of refrigerators, ovens, and cabinets as part of their cleaning, but there is no rule of thumb. You can decide if you want to add those services or not.
When you start your own housecleaning business you must aim at getting maximum number of weekly and bi-weekly clients. This is because these clients will go on to become your regular and loyal followers in the long run. They will bring you the maximum profit. Think about it- a weekly client will pay you 50 odd times a year while a bi-weekly client will do it 26 times a year. In addition, recurring cleaning is much easier that one-time cleaning as it takes less time and energy to perform recurrent cleanings.
All these factors must be considered when you decide to start your own company. Then try to figure out the types of services you would like to offer. It is always a good idea to start small with only a few services, get recognized for your quality, and then expand your agency to include specialty services. This will help you climb a notch above your competitors.
