Going to Las Vegas this Christmas holiday? Definitely consider doing a helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon. But don't delay too long. These flights are popular so get yours while there's still seats.

Too many people assume that Las Vegas is relatively quiet during the month of December. It used to be the case a decade ago but now the City has really picked up it's marketing efforts and is successfully getting travelers to come out.

And who wouldn't, right? I mean there's shows, restaurants, shopping, attractions and, of course, the Grand Canyon.

The Canyon is just 120 miles from the City of Entertainment, making it quick to reach by helicopter. Typically flight time is about 45 minutes. By comparison, it takes a plane 30 minutes and a bus 2.5 hours.

Now there are number of great winter flights from which to choose. The cheapest will always be the air tour, and by "air" I mean flights that don't land at the top or bottom of the National Park (more on this in minute).

In my opinion, air tours are great for travelers on a budget or who have a short window of time to sneak off The Strip for a little sightseeing. The typical air tour will go over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead en route to the Canyon before heading back to Vegas.

Then there are landing tours. I suggest you take one of these if you want more than to simply fly over the "big ditch." The most popular landing tour is the one that goes to the bottom. It's a spectacular flight and one that gets two thumbs up. However, don't take the first flight of the day -- it's cold down there and it takes a while for the sun to make its way to the bottom.

Another trip I like goes to the bottom and comes with a boat ride. I know it sounds odd to do a boat ride in December but if you get down there any time after 10 a. M. It's absolutely gorgeous. Further, the Colorado River is a magnificent waterway and to float it is very special.

Lastly, there's the Skywalk. The boat tour I just described includes tickets to it. There's also another flight that lands on the top specifically for those travelers who want just the glass bridge. Do this flight and you also get around 2 hours to explore the top, which is more than sufficient (just make sure you check out Guano Pt.).

I'm already seeing prices creep up in anticipation of the holidays. Thus I'm advising readers to book their flights in advance. By all means, do everything you can not to book within 24 hours. I guarantee you'll be paying a premium. For some, that's a small concession to see one of the Seven Wonder's of the World. But for the majority of us, saving money matters.

Conclusion

I hope this article helped you as you consider booking your Las Vegas helicopter tour for Christmas Holiday 2014. One key thing to remember is that most helicopters don't fly on Christmas Day (12/25). If you need to get airborne, do an airplane tour, all of which will be taking off as regularly scheduled.
