Apart from being a growing attraction for overseas tourists Baguio City in the Philippines is a big favourite amongst the Filipino people for holidays and for it's great local products. Smack bang in the middle of a rain forest, the city is 1500 metres above sea level with a cooler climate than the rest of the Philippines. However, that cooler temperature is still on average much higher than for instance the UK!

Whenever people visit the City of Pines, the one thing that they never forget to take back home is the local products of the city. These include vegetables, jams, choco flakes and peanut brittles. Vegetables are among the products which are the most popular in the city of Baguio. This is because a myriad of plants and fresh vegetables such as cabbages easily grow in the mild climate here.

Even with such an abundance , people tend to "hoard" vegetables to take back home. It is significant that vegetables and how they are grown in the area leans towards going organic. Baguio City’s organic vegetables are becoming more and more popular each day because they are safer, healthier and they taste better than chemically grown produce. Restaurants that serve organic vegetables are becoming more and more popular. Now, vegetables in Baguio are not just fresh, they are organic as well.

Some of the other products that the city is proud of are the popular food items that can be found on sale in the market. These include peanut brittles, choco flakes, lengua and even strawberry and ube jams. These products are what people usually buy to take home to their friends and relatives. They are easily affordable - ranging from 50 pesos to 200 pesos. When you purchase these products you can’t go wrong with the satisfaction and the taste of these unique food items.

Flowers are what Baguio takes great pride in. Since the launch of the Panagbenga or the Baguio Flower Festival in 1996, the people’s interest in the city’s flowers have grown. The yearly festival lasts throughout the month of February. During that time there is floral float parades, dancing and music including rock and pop festivals. If you are looking for somewhere special to take your partner on Valentines day this city is perfect!

Many different types of flowers can be found in the market of Baguio City and each day, they are delivered fresh from the flower farms. Just some of the species that can be be seen while walking along the flower section of the public market are: various varieties of roses, sunflowers, hydrangea, bromeliad, marigolds, impatiens, Christmas cactus and poinsettas. Even rare plants flourish because of the mild climate and the best part is that these gorgeous plants and flowers are very affordable compared to other places. Indeed Baguio’s flower industry blooms each and every day and the name 'flower capital of the Philippines' is well deserved.

Baguio is an unforgettable experiences for anybody visiting the Philippines. With trips to the right places and the right information a visit here is definitely worthwhile. While in Baguio, you should never forget to drop by the marketplace to enjoy the products the city offers to make the trip complete. Baguio City: the City of Pines and the Summer Capital of the Philippines, a place of solitude, leisure, recreation and of course products worth bringing home as a remembrance of a wonderful experience.
