Dear Public Mappers,
We (A team of 3 MIT students, part of a 30-person design-build project
by Basic Initiative & University of Palermo) are down here in Buenos
Aires after an incredible week of balloon mapping within the
4,000-person squatter community of Los Piletones. Initially our trip
goal was simply to do a test fly and gauge community's response, but
because we've had such success- both in aerial-collection and in
opening a dialogue with the community- we've continued on to map the
larger area and commence experiments with infrared. We have attempted
to convert my panasonic point-and-shoot into an infrared but have some
urgent questions!!! This weekend is our last potential fly
opportunity. Would anyone with some expertise in conversion and
post-processing of near-IR be willing to get on the phone with us
today or over the weekend? We need about a half-hour or less of your
time to figure out how to get some quality demonstrative images to
show the city planning department, in effort to link pitch this
approach to mapping for a larger network of local environmental &
education initiatives. We are grateful for your help and look forward
to sharing the project with you all.

>> Thanks Guys!

Hi Alison,
Great to hear of this exciting project! I hope someone will have time to help you with your camera IR conversion.
To get started, what is your exact camera model, and what have you done to it so far?
Is this your first post to the public lab list? It would be super to for someone from your group to post stories and pictures to publiclaboratory.org as "research notes" so we can learn from you as well.
Thanks!
Liz
