I opened up Internet Explorer 8 for the first time in a while and found that the PLOTS web site was not displaying very well.  Is this what 25% of the visitors to PublicLaboratory.org see or is it just me?

It'd be great to translate the site into internet explorer-ese, so if anyone wants to volunteer speak up! But ie8 and lower is only 5% of our visitors, many of whom I hope see the incompatibility message and try again in another browser. Ie9 is another 5%, and I think it renders a bit better in there.

I didn't see an incompatibility message, but I didn't need one since I see the PLOTS site a lot and knew the problem must be IE8. IE8 is still about 25% of the worldwide desktop browser installed base, so I hope a bunch of people are not prevented from interacting with the PLOTS site.

I'm going to check on the message - we definitely had one before but perhaps the aggressive pagecaching has caused a problem. The 25% is true for the overall net but our own traffic is quite different -- attached you can see only 10% IE, and only 5% is < IE9. Also -- the front page seems to render fine all the way back to IE6.

I'm not as concerned if there is a message telling people that another browser will work, so i'll make sure that's running. It would be great to have full IE compatibility but we just don't have a lot of developer time and we're building/fixing so many other things...

I checked and you were right, the warning had been disabled somehow. I fixed it and you now see the attached at the top when you load the page in IE.

Ironically, it renders pretty well in IE6... whatever!

It doesn't look like it'd be too hard to tweak the margins to get the page to flow properly if anyone feels inspired: https://github.com/jywarren/plots/

I could probably do some IE8 compatibility work at some point. Is the website a repo or can somebody point me to how to get started changing code for this site? Thanks.
