My site had 589 subscribers yesterday and today I see that it's
dropped to 340. This has happened before on my site to where it'll
drop 200+ subscribers and then back to the around the original number
the next day. Does anyone know what causes this huge drop? There is
nothing that I'm doing that should be causing 200+ people to
unsubscribe in one day. Thanks!

Mine, too. Down today to 282 from 482 or so. I hate when this happens.
And I hate the silence from Feedburner/Google, who is historically so
very good at shunting these issues off to a chain of links that lead
to a mute FAQ, or an unmanned help group, or just not answering. I
really wish they would at the very least address the drop publicly or
after the fact or warn us, or stop it from happening. It's just
annoying and it makes a bad impression when new people come to the
site and see my readership numbers as they were...over a year ago,
maybe.

I can see an explanation will be forthcoming any moment now.

By any chance, are you guys using Blogger? Yesterday Blogger had a
problem publishing feeds which was announced in the Blogger Status
blog:

We have noticed a small number of blogs have broken feeds and are
seeing the following bX codes when going to their feeds' URL:

* bX-z8kqgm
* bX-391dlh

This is now fixed, but I wonder if this may have anything to do with
our statistics? My feed count dropped by about half, from 1134 to 689 :
(

Hopefully the team can fix (or explain) this soon. Not long ago, my
feeds all dropped to zero, but luckily that was solved within a few
hours.

Hey Amanda, no. I'm using movable type. I'm at http://www.theunapologeticmexican.org/elgrito
and my feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/theunapologeticmexican and
today i'm still at half of what i've been for quite a while. its a bit
frustrating, you might say. i hope its fixed soon. i hate looking at
that chiclet now and i may just take it off my page until they fix
this. I hear you, last two times this happened itw as fixed in a day.
This is the first time its still broken on day two. :(

i just checked it. the feed seems to be workign so i dont know whats
up. thanks for the response.

Amandaf, just for the sake of noting it here, I see now that it is the
same problem it was last time. The "google feed fetcher" is down
almost completely, in that pie chart of "see more about your readers."
Thats what it was last time, too. The Google Feed Fetcher stats
dropping almost entirely. But as I said, last time this got better in
a day. not so this time.

Hello Nezua,

Thanks for the clarification. Surprisingly my stats seemed to be okay
yesterday (the stats seem to update around 10am GMT for me).

I'd heard about the Google Feedfetcher problem regarding the problems
last time. When I looked at my subscribers earlier, the Feedfetcher
subscribers still seemed to be there, but now this doesn't seem to be
the case.

I'm surprised there seems to be so few of us asking about this in the
forums! But hopefully we'll see this resolved tomorrow :)

My Google Feedfetcher subscribers are down by about half today. I'm on
a self-hosted wordpress blog at http://knitnut.net

Thanks for the backup, amandaf and zoom. It's good to know that I'm
not alone in this! I mean...chances are it will clear up, but I hate
when this happens. You write every day for years and slowly build your
readership, you are proud of it and want that count to reflect
reality. So. Here's hoping it is taken care of already, and will be
reflected soon (24 hour cycle, i think on this, right?) in the
numbers. :)

My stats are back to normal now :) Hope everyone else sees the same
thing in their dashboards too!

Nope. There is three more than yesterday, but still a couple hundred
below normal. But I'm glad yours is back on track.
