Google public dns stopped resolving google.com domain. Ping and
tracert for google.com returned "request timed out." Browsers
(Chrome, Firefox, IE) would not load google.com pages. Other domains
were resolved with no problems. Switched back to my ISP dns, then
google.com was available once again.

Bob, sorry to hear that. Where are you? (This often makes a
difference.) When were you seeing this happen: immediately before
sending your e-mail message, or sometime before that?

What's the full output of the following command?:

tracert 8.8.8.8

You can test Google Public DNS for (for example) www.google.com by
running the following command:

nslookup www.google.com 8.8.8.8

Thanks for the report. --PSRC

8.8.8.8 is fine for me, but 4.4.4.4 is not:

 nslookup www.google.com 8.8.8.8
Server:         8.8.8.8
Address:        8.8.8.8#53

Non-authoritative answer:
www.google.com  canonical name = www.l.google.com.
Address: 66.102.11.99
Address: 66.102.11.104

 nslookup www.google.com 4.4.4.4
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

I'm in Tasmania, on a satellite modem. The 10.0.5.* addresses are my home LAN, the 192.168.*.* are my ISP's peculiar way of doing DHCP.

Seems like the hop from the San Jose server is the problem.

Regards,
David

It's 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8, not 4.4.4.4.

Blush. My only excuse is it's early in the morning. Sorry for the noise.
