unresolvable hostnames with google DNS

i keep finding hostnames that don't resolve via the google DNS
resolvers.

two examples:
irc.arcti.ca
www.etruesports.com

both resolve fine using every other resolver i've tried - google dns
just inexplicably fails to resolve them.

Which other resolvers have you tried for this?  I can't resolve it through anything--e.g., Level3 times out and OpenDNS gives one of their own IPs.  AFAICT, the authorities for arcti.ca (ns1.arcti.ca and ns2.arcti.ca) seem dead.

Looks like there had been a temporary issue with 1and1 (the authority for this zone) earlier today, but seems to be fine now.

irc.arcti.ca doesn't work at all as their IP addresses aren't even being announced on the internet (it doesn't even seem like they are registered at any of the RIR's like ARIN...) so their nameservers are timing out. This isn't a Google issue.
