SPTM demands: Make Helmets compulsory for 2-wheeler riders!!

Dear All,

As a part of the analysis done regarding 'Save 100 Lives!' campaign initiated by SPTM, we have found that more than 50% of all the road accident victims are two wheeler riders. 

Out of the 460 people who were killed in traffic accidents in PMC + PCMC areas from 1-Apr-2010 to 31-Mar-2011, 235 were two wheeler riders. These are staggering / shocking numbers. Road accident fatalities every year exceed all swine flu deaths in Pune so far !! 

Needless to say, If we have to bring down accident fatalities significantly, HELMETS MUST BE MADE COMPULSORY FOR 2-WHEELERS. Of course, there are many issues which are root causes of the accidents and we all have to continue to fight to remove those causes and prevent accidents. However, there is no denying that 2-wheeler riders are most vulnerable on roads right now and Helmets enhance their Safety significantly.  

But many people have different objections to this. We have put up various objections that people raise regarding compulsory helmets for 2-wheelers and SPTM stand regarding them. Please see them on our webpage below:

Are you a person who doesn't use helmet while riding two wheeler? If so, we earnestly appeal you to start using one immediately.
