We should use this opportunity to give our feedback to the Centre (whether they ask us for it or not).

A city is developed not when poor ride or aspire for cars, but where the rich use public transport

I am wondering what report the city administration will write! It will be interesting.. to know how much innovative they can become while doing that!!

Yes, I agree Sujit..we should send our report also.

The Union urban development ministry has evolved a system to evaluate urban transport services in cities across the country. All cities covered by the JNNURM were earlier advised to benchmark their level of services for various parameters specified by the ministry. The report has to be based on the result of this exercise.>

Sujit do you have details of this system by urban dev to evaluate transport services?

I thought everyone knew about these benchmarks. If not, do take a look. They have been published at least 2-3 years ago by Ministry of Urban Development, but don't think any city has bothered with them. More recently Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), commissioned a study to look at the SLBs in some cities.

Yes these have been published a couple of year back and the city has done nothing aboutthem. Now the Central Govt wants the city to send a report on Public Transport, and its not hard to imagine what the city will send in response. That is all the more reason for us to take this opportunity to send our own report to the Central Govt with as much publicity in the media as possible to expose the charade.
