Every day I have to travel to office at Hadapsar Magarpatta through Mundhwa (मुंढवा) by Company bus. My whole journey is not very joyful thanks to Pune roads and traffic. But most frustrating part is Traffic Mess which happens every morning and evening which is peak traffic time in Mundhwa.

In morning while journey to office, Traffic starts mounting at entrance near Mundhwa Vegetable market due to bottle-neck created by Electricity pole and some pipeline work going on from ages. It has been 1 year since I am travelling on that road, and from last 1 year I am seeing that pipeline work is in-progress, but no idea when it will complete. Area near Vegetable market (I guess it’s referred as Gandhi Chowk) is worst part. Here vehicles coming from all directions meet in very narrow road, and none of vehicles attempt to follow any traffic rule. Earlier in Gandhi Chowk, vehicles took right turn in narrow road going towards Magarpatta, but now local authorities have put sign-boards mentioning right turn not allowed. Yet many vehicles take right turn causing halt to other vehicles due to very little space to take turn. Road between Gandhi Chowk and Mahatma Phule Chowk is also narrow and gets jammed as this road meets Kharadi bypass highway. Mahatma Phule Chowk is usually monitored by Traffic cops, yet they don’t follow any rule, or show any strict approach, resulting vehicles entering despite NO signal from cops. Same thing happens in Evening as well. Vehicles keep coming from all directions in Gandhi chowk and Mahatma Phule chowk. And with no monitoring from Traffic cops, there is big jam and causing delays.

Apart from peak time traffic, there are many other reasons. There are citizens doing their shopping who add up to traffic due to parking on either side of roads. There is also PMPML bus-stop at Gandhi chowk. Another thing to mention is movement of heavy vehicles in this area in Morning and Evening peak times. As there is lots of construction work going on, lots of big trucks carries construction material. When such big vehicle enters this narrow lane, traffic from both directions comes to standstill. There seem to be no restriction by local authorities of Traffic department on movement of this bug trucks.

I see this is collective failure of local authorities and Traffic department handling traffic in this area. In period of 1 year I have seen very little development going on to provide respite to local citizens and Hundreds of travelers passing through this area, and some serious action is needed to solve Mundhwa Traffic Mess.

If I remember correctly, traffic police in that Chowk just "stand" there for "punishing" those NOT wearing the seat belts.
