I seem to get the T's & C's sheet frequently, when I use power management.
Query: does the AP remember MAC's which have clicked through the T's & C's?
Problem: if I have to click through, I have to reconfigure my proxy etc just to see the T's and C's and click. Ugh.
Thoughts?
Thanks,

Ah T's and C's is "terms and conditions". Sorry that took me a
while. We usually just call it the splash page.
Tom> Thoughts?
What network are you connected to? There is a repeater with the SSID:
www.personaltelco.net/amnesia inside Amnesia. Or are you connected to
SSID: www.personaltelco.net, which is our outdoor network?
How long is there between splash page redirections?

Be warned, our November Monthly Meeting is going to be delayed a week
due to Thanksgiving this year, so we are planning to have it on
December 3rd at Jax Bar on SW 2nd Avenue downtown Portland. We
shutdown for most of the rest of December due to the Holidays.

The repeater in Amnesia is sitting on a window sill near the cash
register. It connects to the outdoor network.
Tom> So - I assume from your answer, and from my more detailed
Tom> consideration of the sequence, that you only make a MAC click

Tom> Is that correct?
Yes. The repeater (www.personaltelco.net/amnesia) NAT's onto the
outdoor network, so everyone connected to the repeater looks like one
client to the captive portal (the splash page thing). And I believe
the "auth" will time out if there is no activity for a certain period
of time, or 24 hours, which ever comes first. It is quite conceivable
that sleeping for N minutes (where N is ?) will cause you to have to
re-auth.
Sometimes captive portals are a pain in the butt. But they also have
a certain utility. I am sorry ours caused you difficulty.
Thankyou for taking the time to reply. I will attempt to attend meetings - have been meaning to for a year, but just didn't quite.
It's possible that due to the weak signal at the south end of the inside area I was bouncing between the outside and inside.
I have detailed timing logs with about 1 second resolution if you are interested, but it's basically:
I ran with WiMAX using Clearwire - last connection through them ended 18:25:35.
At 18:35:21 I found "personaltelco.net" with IP 10.11.105.70. I had to reconfigure proxy settings to view the splash and then click through. At 18:36:48 I was actually able to access the net. I then went to S3 (my Wife wanted to chat - she always trumps WLAN issues).
Again at 18:38:38 I leased an IP from the same SSID. Got the same IP. Network was accessible by 18:38:57.
Again at 18:41:04, same IP & SSID, network first accessible at 18:41:25, VPN setup by 18:41:45. Downloaded two emails, and then put the machine back to sleep (keep Wife happy - prime directive :-).
Similar at 18:43:49, but then at 18:57:35 I was attached to 192.168.3.243 and 4 seconds later the net was accessible, and another 5 seconds later VPN was setup. Then, at 19:03:22, same class C address, but it redirected me to the splash-screen. I did the reconfigure of proxy settings, browsed to the splash, clicked through, and then of course things 'worked'. The next time, things "just worked".
Ok - now I feel foolish. It seems that each of the AP's sent me to the splash screen once. I hadn't considered the outside AP - I assumed (mea culpa) that it was all internal to the brewery.
So - I assume from your answer, and from my more detailed consideration of the sequence, that you only make a MAC click through once every now and then?
Is that correct?

|terms and conditions| - |T's and C's| = 7 strokes saved.
Problem: Worst impromptu abbreviation evar.
Right-o. Carry on.
