Congratulations!  Your team has been selected to proceed to the PSU Cleantech Challenge Pitching Round on May 23rd.  The Planning Committee was impressed by the quality of your application and the potential of your proposed project.  We look forward to working with you as the competition progresses.  This email contains detailed information about next steps and the format for pitches.  Please read this carefully, and feel free to direct any questions to ent...@pdx.edu.

Your next step is to sign up for your 15-minute pitch coaching session.   This is a chance for you to practice your pitch and receive valuable feedback before the official Pitching Round.  We are holding two pitch coaching sessions: Friday, May 17th from 2-5pm and Tuesday, May 21st, from 11am-1pm at the Portland State Business Accelerator.

Please watch your email for a scheduling invitation from Doodle.  At that time, you will be able to enter the system and select your desired date and time.  We encourage you to sign up as soon as possible to best meet your scheduling needs.

The PSU Cleantech Challenge Pitching Round will take place on Thursday, May 23rd, from 1-4pm at the Portland State Business Accelerator.  Each team will have 5 minutes to present: 2-3 minutes for your pitch, and 2-3 minutes for questions and answers.  You will be pitching to 20 distinguished judges drawn from the Portland cleantech community.

5-6 semi-finalists will be announced after this round.  To move their projects forward over the summer, each will receive $5,000, mentoring, and admission to valuable startup events.  We will provide a detailed schedule as we get closer to the event.  You are welcome to attend the entire event and to invite guests.

As mentioned above, you will have 5 minutes total to present.  Please plan on presenting for 2-3 minutes, and answering questions for 2-3 minutes.  We encourage you to be succinct and keep your presentations as close to 2 minutes as possible.

Your written application can serve as a template for your presentation.  However, please make sure you address the following issues:

1)   What is the potential environmental impact of your innovation?  How will it change the world for the better?

2)   How will your team make the best use of the $5,000 semi-finalist prize?  How will $5,000 help your team reach the next critical commercialization milestone?

3)   Many proposed projects have been attempted by other companies with varying degrees of success.  Why is yours more likely to succeed?  What unique qualities make yours better?

The judges will be evaluating your projects using the following guidelines:

• Has the submission clearly described the problem and the market opportunity?

• Is the proposed concept and solution clearly stated?

• What is the potential impact on the environment and on society?

• What is your overall assessment of this submission?

Thanks so much for your submission.  We are excited by the energy and creativity here at PSU and look forward to working with you!

Best,

Quinn Read

Ah, they aren't giving us $5000 ... at least not yet.  There is a pitch on 5/23.  *After* that 5 or 6 semi-finalists are announced.

Also, it looks like they want to involve students so that they have some claim over any intellectual property:  http://www.pdx.edu/research/patent-waivers

This suddenly looks much less interesting.

I know I'm the new guy around here, but I'm used to doing reports and presentations in front of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of people.

And I've got a suit for every occasion.

So if you need someone to wing for the presentation, I'd be happy to stand up there and pitch.
