PTgui is having problems aligning images from the Yasuhara Madoka 180 fisheye lens. Usually it will only auto generate control points for 4 or 5 out of 6 rotations, or 3 out of 4 rotations. Is there some kind of process I should follow to get it to work without having to do a lot of manual generation?

Glad to know that we can expect to play soon with sample images.
I have used some Madoka180 photographs that were shot with a NEX-5 on a single horizontal row (4 around). I have had a similar experience to the reported result from tries by Thomas: I need to put manually a lot of CP to get a decent stitch. I am eager to learn what's actually causing a different outcome with your shots.

I had to wait until I could access these on my PC because I couldn't view
them on my iPad,
but I must say the Madoka looks as if it is exceeding expectations! That
shot straight into
the sun in very impressive, no problems with ghosts or flare (but maybe
you cleaned them
all away in post processing?).
I am not so sure about the colour rendering, although that could be
anything from your personal
preference to some problem with colour profiles between your computer and
mine... (wry grin)
Detail looks good, although I would have liked to zoom in closer to get a
better look.
All in all very encouraging. Thanks for posting such an interesting
collection. It certainly
looks as if you have the non-parallax point accurately nailed, judging by
that shot of the chess
players!
Pity there are no image files. The dummy blue and white images that
PTGui generates take up a strange shape in the Panorama Editor
window. Just measuring the width of an image there gives an fov of
216. Seems to be in part due to the not especially large horizontal
shift parameter. Intriguing.

Hi, I am an amateur panorama photographer. I take handheld panorama most of the time when I travel. I use a panohead if the situation allows. My old gear was a Nikon Coolpix P5100 with FC-E8. Recently I bought a Madoka 180 to go with the Nex. Until they come up with a better stitcher that will handle the Madoka well, I have deviced the following unorthodox solution.
1. Take 4 shots around dipping down 15 degrees to cover the nadir with good resolution. (The obstruction of the panohead will be kept to the minimum in the end.) 2. Take 1 shot for the top, zenith. 3. Box the shots in tight squares. (the sensor is a bit off centre as usual.) 4. Defish the shots, so that the orthographic looks similar to the stereographic. (e.g. PTLens fisheye distortion by the value of 117. Vignette correction is also possible.) 5. PTGui stitches the 5 shots automatically with no problem.

I have made available for download the photos of the second panorama I posted last time. The files are compressed for Web with factor 7, I hope the quality is still good. Shots 01-05 are centered and defished such that orthographic appearance is changed to look like stereographic.
