I have question.
Before I took all pictures just in normal/JPEG and there was NO
noise :)
Now I took pictures in FINE-jpeg + Raw.
I like RAW because I could do a lot color/picture correction BUT there
is "noise" and I do not know why.
While in JPEG picture there is no noise, picture is really fine.
So what in the heck I'm doing wrong?
To be honest today I almost trow my D80 out of window.
Guys you are much more smart then I am and I need your great wisdom.
THANK YOU.
Ivan
P.S. Is there a way to "open" JEPG in same format as RAW so that I
could do more corrections?
There maybe some noise reduction turned on in the Picture Control profile your using for JPEG, but perhaps you haven't selected the same profile for your RAW processing - or need to add some noise reduction its under Detail Adjustment in Capture NX.
Thank you for your reply but now I will see IF you could be patient with me
:). Is there different set up for JPEG and for RAW???
I click MENU then under SHOOTING MENU we have
- Optimize image
- Image quality
- Image size
- White balance
- ISO sensitivity
- Long exp. NR
- HIGH ISO NR
- normal
- low
- high
- off
- Multiple exposure

Hello Ivan. I'm not sure about the noise issue you're having but, If you
right click a JPEG in Adobe Bridge the option to "open in Camera Raw" is
available.

OK not that conversant with the D80, but checking the manual it doesn't appear to allow loading Profiles as you can with some (D300 in my case) however I do note that even if FINE-JPEG there is a 1:4 compression compared to the RAW image, so that will have a significant effect on any noise. Do you use Capture NX to process the images from RAW? If so try saving the image as the same size Pixel size as the JPEG from the camera and adjust the compression ratio to achieve the same file size then compare the two images.
Try using within the Capture NX the Base Adjustment, Detail Adjustment, and adjust the Noise Reduction parameters to see if this will reduce the problem, you can then save in TIF etc. for processing and gain the reduction in noise without losing any further detail in JPG compression.
Just been reading the D80 manual a bit further pages 79-81 The Optimise Image settings allow custom settings for Saturation and Image sharpening, if these are set to low or normal you may find that these settings will reduce colour noise as well within the JPEG's created within the camera.
