Hello restoration enthusiasts!

Hope your summer is superb.  Thought I should forward a posting about stream team volunteers to the group to see if there are any interested takers.  I know that Clark County in Vancouver, WA has a good reputation for their restoration programme and that these opportunities sometimes lead to jobs down the line.

While we're on the subject of restoration, the Johnson Creek Watershed Council is hosting a brand new science pub series (sorry under 21 folks!) entitled Hot Fish, Cool Beer.  The first event will be held Tuesday September 11 from 6-8 p.m. at 4th Street Brewing Company (77 NE 4th St. Gresham).

I'll start to post more opportunities going forward.  Good luck to you all in your restoration endeavors!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  August and September are looking pretty busy!  We’ll be starting a new season of Stream Steward classes on September 22nd, so it’s time to fill out those applications.  The program is designed to provide environmental education on the fundamentals of local ecology and natural history in return for volunteer service.  Check out our website for more information.

I’ve also included some volunteer opportunities with StreamTeam.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.  Thanks!

Tree Maintenance

Location TBD

Saturday, August 25

8:45am – 1pm

Come flex your muscles!  Volunteers are needed to help the native trees we’ve planted thrive.  We will most likely be watering, but the activity is dependent on the weather conditions.  Training, equipment and light refreshments will be provided. You will want to bring work and weather appropriate attire, a reusable mug, and gloves, if you have them.  Pre-registration is required.

Knotweed Treatment

Location TBD

Saturdays:

Saturday, August 18

Saturday, September 8

Saturday, September 15

Saturday, October 6

Wednesdays:

Wednesday, August 15

Wednesday, August 29

8:45am – 1pm

Do you hate Knotweed?  Well, help us eradicate it!  Volunteers are needed to treat knotweed using injector “guns”, and must be able to navigate over uneven terrain and through thick vegetation.  Training, equipment and light refreshments will be provided. You will want to bring work and weather appropriate attire, and a reusable mug.  Long-sleeves and pants are required.  Please Pre-register.

Clark County Connects Knotweed Survey

Location TBD

Saturday, September 22

8:45am – 1pm

StreamTeam is organizing a Knotweed Survey as a part of the Clark County Connects day of service.  Volunteers are needed to search for knotweed and monitor the effectiveness of our previous treatments.  You must be able to navigate over uneven terrain and through thick vegetation. Training, equipment and light refreshments will be provided. You will want to bring work and weather appropriate attire, and a reusable mug.  Pre-registration is required.

Planting or Maintenance

Location TBD

Saturday, September 29

8:45am – 1pm

Volunteers are needed to either plant or water trees, depending on weather conditions.  Training, equipment and light refreshments will be provided. You will want to bring work and weather appropriate attire, a reusable mug, and gloves, if you have them.  Pre-registration is required.
