Subject: Making links with China

Hello everyone,

As many of you know, Iım in China with 20 kids and  3 other staff for the
next 5 or so weeks. In case you want to keep up to date with what we are
doing and so I can avoid long group emails Iıll be blogging about it all
at http://www.technochinese.com  - what the kids are up to, how we are
going, how their projects are taking shape, how they are coping with being
away from home for so long (6 weeks) etc. Iıll be blogging about my personal
reflections and the project Iım doing (using mobile phones to take pics and
send them back to a class in Australia with accompanying Chinese language
recordings), as well as all the technology Iım using (you should see the
list of stuff I brought with me!) at
http://www.technolote.com

We are staying at Nanjing Number 1 Middle School (In some rather nice
boarding house rooms the kids are very grateful they have Western style
toilets!). Nanjing is just a few hours by train inland from Shanghai. We
will be visiting Suzhou (between Nanjing and Shanghai) in the middle of the
trip, and Beijing at the end.

Iım hoping to be writing almost everyday, but will just have to see how that
pans out and if there is reliable internet access. Iım also hoping to get
the kids to do some blogging using their blog spaces on the ning network
they have. That site is http://gariwerdprogram.ning.com and it is set to
private at the moment, but Iıll be changing all  of that once Iıve got a few
other things sorted out.

Iım hoping to be blogging, podcasting, taking photos and videos and sharing
them all as much as possible. Feel free to spread the word and for those of
you who are teachers,  if we have access to skype it would be great to get
some link ups with classes happening. Weıll be here in China until October
18th with internet access until the 14th thereabouts. If you have classes
maybe we could do a ŒRequest a Photoı project or something like that
something simple and easy. The kids here are mostly from Year 10, so 15/16
years old. Time zone in China is GMT+8.

Stay out of trouble we will try to :-)

Zaijian!
Jess

Dear PSP-ers,

As the newly installed editor of Babel, I would be very happy to receive
written reports of the investigations carried out as part of the PSP. Please
visit www.afmlta.asn.au and click on the link to ³journal² in the banner at
the top of the page this will take you to details about what is required
for publication.

Another outlet for your investigation reports is to present them at the
AFMTLA conference to be held in Sydney in July 2009.
Go to www.mltansw.asn.au/afmlta2009.htm for further information.

Best,

Hi Matthew

I would like to have a go at contributing but I may need a little help
as I have never done this before.  Is there a deadline to have the
article in by.

Also since you teach Italian .........

I am currently doing my final subject of my 4th year at UNISA with Enza
Tudini and I am doing a research project following on from the Italian
cinema studies course last semester and have chosen to look at Federico
Fellini  but I need a focus question for my project ......any ideas or
suggestions.

Cheers

Amanda Warton

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for your email. The reports are not very long you could simply use
the template for the investigation report and just have a go at writing it
up...

Fellini: how about images of women? Or, depictions of Italy? Does that help?

Hi Matthew,

As the regional LOTE Project Officer for the Southern Region of DEECD, I
think it would be great to ask teachers in my region if they are happy
to present their projects at either network meetings within the region
or at regional PDs. The region would acknowledge the teachers' work as
presenters which could then be evidence for their performance plans.
Does this fit in with the PSPL guidelines?

If it's OK, can you let me know and then anyone in SMR who is
interested, can just let me know.

Cheers,

Lisa.
