onComplete glitch

A while back I ran into a problem where onComplete would not fire. I
found a solution on the old group of this here:

That fix has worked for months. Now all of a sudden I see it acting up
again on Firefox 3. The AJAX call will fire but nothing will happen. I
started searching for that old post when something even stranger
happened. After about 4 minutes, the onComplete fired at random and my
page loaded. Does anyone have ideas for this?
