[15:58] <lsmith> lukas smith, used propel on my first symfony project,
since then i have been using and contributing to doctrine (actually
doctrine forked my PEAR::MDB2 package for the DBAL)
[15:58] <francois___> lsmith: your reputation precedes you ;)
[15:58] <v-dogg> hey, before we really get going, who's going to
publish the log?
[15:58] <francois___> is someone already recording this?
[15:59] <francois___> I will
[15:59] <Jarda> I'm always recording
[15:59] <pablodip> anyone here use doctrine? liars! :)
[15:59] <StephenMelrose> Aye
[15:59] <greg1> Hi
[15:59] <v-dogg> ok so at least Jarda has the backlog. we are good to
go
[15:59] <b00giZm> i guess jwage does ^^
[16:00] <francois___> Ok everyone, it's 10pm on my watch, I guess it's
time to begin
[16:00] <Phenix> let's go
[16:00] <francois___> Letme first say (write) a few words
[16:01] <francois___> It's only been a year since I took over Propel,
and I didn't expect to dedicate so much time to it
[16:01] <francois___> I didn't expect to make it move so much either
[16:01] <grEvenX> :)
[16:01] == tobiassjosten
[~tob...@c-919ee253.04-114-73746f13.cust.bredbandsbolaget.se] has

[16:01] <grEvenX> (but oh has it moved!)
[16:01] <francois___> To be honest, I toop Propel as a corpse, and
gave myslef the mission to help it have a soft death
[16:01] <francois___> today, that's not the question anymore
[16:02] <francois___> Propel is very much alive and has found (again)
a community of users and developers
[16:02] <b00giZm> (they call him the steve jobs of propel ;))
[16:02] <francois___> We could go on like this past year for a long
time
[16:03] <francois___> adding killer feature every two days,
refactoring the core without breaking BC, simplifying the life of
developers
[16:03] <francois___> but
[16:03] <francois___> the future is not Propel 1.x
[16:04] <francois___> the future is probably Symfony2, Zend
Framework2, Doctrine2, and all those Project2
[16:04] <francois___> So basically, we need a Propel 2
[16:04] <francois___> just for the sake of the number
[16:04] <francois___> (just kidding)
[16:04] <StephenMelrose> :)
[16:04] <avalanche123> :)
[16:04] <LvanderRee> agree I can create a branch ;)
[16:04] <grEvenX> hehe
[16:05] <francois___> When I took over the 1.x branch, someone else
took over the 2.x branch
[16:05] <francois___> no work has been done on this branch since
[16:05] == annismckenzie [~annismcke@178-25-17-236-

[16:05] <francois___> So we are gathered here tonight
[16:05] <francois___> to discuss the future of Propel
[16:06] <francois___> what it should be, how it should be called, and
who should take care of it
[16:06] <francois___> I suggest that we all talk together now to give
our thoughts on the matter
[16:06] <francois___> because I'm feeling lonely :)
[16:06] <francois___> now shoot
[16:06] <Jarda> I'm not completely sure if we really need a 2.0
[16:07] <Jarda> you have done magical stuff with the 1.x branch
[16:07] <grEvenX> there were some "bold" ideas a year ago, and even
from earlier than that about what features should wait for Propel 2
[16:07] <Jarda> there must be a killer vision for 2.0
[16:07] <grEvenX> does anyone remember any of those suggested
features?
[16:07] <LvanderRee> I think we should cooperate more with doctrine in
a new version
[16:07] <StephenMelrose> But with more additions and BC 1.x becomes
bloated. Doctrine2 is already amazing performance wise. Propel needs
to step up to the place
[16:07] <francois___> Jarda: I'm sure we need it. People starting
projects today, with PHP 5.3, namespaces, closures and late static
binding will find Propel dated
[16:07] <v-dogg> Criteria2 was meant to be the killer thing for P2 but
current Query stuff is superior
[16:07] <annismckenzie> I can only attest to the quality and
thoughtfulness put into Propel 1.4 and up
[16:08] <LvanderRee> using its ...

Sorry I didn't make the meeting.  I hurt my foot this weekend and was
at the hospital again this afternoon because the infection is getting
worse.

I would be happy to help out with Propel 2 and think that building on
top of Doctrine DBAL is a good idea.  I think it's sorta funny that
Propel 1.2 is on top of Creole, Propel 1.3 through 1.x goes on top of
PDO, and 2.x goes onto Doctrine DBAL on top of PDO.

Propel Query API on top of Doctrine sounds a lot like DbFinder to me too...  =]

I guess I'll have a lot of work to do getting Doctrine DBAL MSSQL
support up to snuff.

My main limitation to actually using Doctrine 2 or Propel 2 is that my
production servers still run php 5.2.x and it's a huge ordeal to
upgrade them.  They're RHEL 5 Enterprise and I have to jump through
huge hoops within my company to certify new packages for use.

Hi Benjamin,

lets hope RHEL6 will be out soon than, and that they can upgrade to
that (or use its php5.3 packages)

lol Leon.  It will be YEARS after RHEL6 is released before it will be
certified by engineering for use in production.
